It happened again FSM friends. Twice now since August 4th. A second package, this time from ebay is reported by Post Office Tracking as Delivered IN/OR AT MAILBOX at my address and I once again did not get it. I will be going to the Post Office first thing in the morning to speak to a supervisor. Last time I had to wait 1/2 hour till one came out. I will ask him or her if I can meet the freeken Monkey who is delivering mail to my house. Sadly this time I have no Wonderful Company like LA LA LAND RECORDS to cover the ass of this stupid mailman or thief if the mailman once again left the package out for anyone to take.

Stay tuned. I may be on the News tomorrow.

Lord, what have I done in my life to deserve this?

I need a freeken drink.

Assholes are coming into my neighborhood and stealing any packages left unprotected by idiot mailpeople on porches and in front of people's doors.

The Post Office seriously has to change their policies about leaving packages that people spend hard earned money on, unprotected in front of their houses.

Zoobster.....
Do you work? If you have a work address, have it delivered THERE, and INDICATE you want to SIGN for your package!
A few years ago, I ordered a driveshaft through an online website, and had it delivered to a former friend's business, and had to sign for it.

Hi Jim. I work at an Elementary School. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to ask to have my mail delivered there and I'm sure they would not allow it. Perhaps this is just a way of God telling me I don't need to buy anything on line anymore. I'm beginning to take it as some sort of message to me. I know I really don't need any more material things in my life. It's crazy that this is happening and I can't even think straight it's so upsetting. It's all just a sad comment on how some people are and how some business practices really don't help people. I was inspired by LA LA LAND'S Generosity and Good Will and will always be thankful to them. Evil and thievery will always exist in the world. It seems that is a given. I now don't even feel like going to the Post Office tomorrow and have to wait to speak to some uncaring supervisor. I'm just not going to buy things on line anymore. We all should be able to trust the Post Office, but it just doesn't seem possible.

Thank you Jim for your suggestions and caring. I think I'll just call off buying anything online for a while. I can live without. Just need to sleep now.

Well...here's ANOTHER suggestion.... specify that YOU will pick up your packages AT THE POST OFFICE! I hope you, and everyone else, will forgive my language, but DON'T EVER LET THESE MOTHERFUCKERS WIN! smile

ZOOBA:

I had two package stolen from my front door in two weeks.

Package #1---Amazon sent my order in three parts.
Part One was lost in transit and Amazon gave me a refund.
Part Two was supposed top be delivered on Sunday, but it wasn't so I called Amazon and told them I had jury duty on Monday, so don't deliver until I called back for delivery instructions. Amazon delivered it on Monday anyway and my neighbors stole it. Amazon apologized and sent me a replacement via US Postal Service.
Part Three was the Bluray NAKED GUN set---the third movie had audio/video problems on the end credits. I sent it back to Amazon today to exchange it for another set.

Package #2---ebay package was sent via US Postal Service and the substitute carrier left it on my door without knocking even though I was at home and my neighbors stole it (my normal carrier was on vacation and always alerts me when I have a package).
I filed a complaint with the USPS and went to my local post office. The local postmaster called me and said it's not their responsibility after the package is left at the door, and the carrier knocked on my door and I didn't hear it (which is not true).
Since the USPS refused to accept responsibility, I contacted ebay Concierge and the seller and ebay gave me a full refund.

Good luck with your situation.

I should go to the Post Office tomorrow and report the incident but I don't think I have the patience to talk to another uncaring supervisor who will take no responsibility. As I said last time, it happened to 3 or 4 others in my neighborhood as well. Perhaps the substitute mail carrier is back and the thief followed him again as he left packages unprotected.

Wow, dragon53 it happened to you too! So sorry. The world is going mad! POST OFFICE SUCKS.

Reminds me of when people would go "POSTAL" back in the day. I stay away from the P.O. as much as humanly possible. I'm done. And I don't think it's the seller's responsibility to give refunds and take a loss. LA LA LAND was beyond kind. I want to buy lots from them to repay their humanity! Just wish I could count on the POOP OFFICE to deliver it to my secure mailbox.

Okay, now where's my Margarita?

Pleasant night all!

What's the deal with postmen leaving packages and mail on people's doorsteps? Is this common in the US?

In Norway, we have strict rules about this -- if a package arrives that is too big for the mail box, for example, it's being transferred to a pick-up point nearby (post offices are being weeded out of our system, these pick-up points are usually in grocery stores), and the recipient is being notified with a letter in the mailbox.

I'm surprised you don't have a similar system in play over there. Otherwise, you do indeed run the risk of other people stealing your stuff.

^same here. There is no way a package can be stolen, either the postman hands it to you, or, if you're not at home, you go to the sorting office to pick it up. It's kind of appalling that the US does not do this, especially given what they charge these days. I mean who's to say it's not just the postman stealing things? If there's no system in place to stop them. It's equally bad you had to wait half an hour to talk to someone at their premises. That would be unheard of here.

Sorry you lost another package, but yeah, you gotta make other arrangements. Thieves have a bullseye on your house and awaiting in the bushes.

The US Post Office job is to deliver the mail to the address on the package YOU choose. Either in a mailbox or by the front door. That's it, they're not the police or "package security guard". I've never in my life had a package left at my front door stolen . But it happens, especially in high crime areas.

That's bizarre.

The only way you can get a package on the door over here, is if it's sent by 'recorded delivery' (or whatever it's called in English -- it's called 'rekommandert post' in Norway). Usually very expensive, but even in those cases -- if there is no one there to receive the package and sign for it, it will be left at pick-up point for your convenience, and a notification letter is dropped in your mailbox.

Just leaving a package by the door -- whether you live in an house or an apartment building, would be against all rules, and a postman who did that would probably be fired. Makes no sense.

I'm so lucky that my workplace is open 24/7 and they allow employees to have their stuff mailed there. Old folks' homes pay very little, but I do get anything sent there that's too big for the letterbox. Before I was able to do this I too used to get the dreaded card on the doormat. But at least I was then able to pick it up from the local sorting office, or have it re-posted on a different day when I know I'm in.

In this age of Amazon and the like though, it is possible to have things left behind a rubbish/garbage bin etc. There have even been cases of things being left IN the bin, with the less pleasant possibilities that offers. I'd hate to think my Complete LotR sets being left ANYWHERE outside my house!

So yes my heart also goes out to you Zooba. Nothing worse than spending good money for this sort of thing to happen. The worst thing I can get now, when they see the address, is all those senders thinking what a cool 90+ old guy I must be to be in the home and still be 'with it' enough to listen to film scores and watch Blu-rays!

My family has very recently encountered such a situation. My mom ordered a metal flag for my grandfather's birthday (it even had his name engraved) and had it shipped to his home. It was supposed to come a few days after his birthday, but it never arrived and I fear it may have met the same fate as Zooba's packages.

If you know your neighbor, you can leave a note for the postman indicating to leave it with your neighbor, and your cellphone/work number for verification.

And as another member indicated, you can ask to pick your packages up at the Post Office.

I was a postman once and a couple times I found hand-written notes from people asking me to do things; one was to hold the mail for a week while they were on vacation. I did so. Doesn't mean your postman will be as nice, but it's worth leaving a note asking to hold the packages and have them delivered on a day you are there, when there is mail delivery (like Saturday, for example).
