Can't get enough. My first real exposure as a kid was sitting at the family stereo with headphones on, listening to my big sister's LPs. Amazing in the early 1970s, still great today. He really holds up over time.

Current favorite Elton John song: Little Jeannie.

I don't have the Diamonds set, but I have these four CDs...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greatest_Hits_(Elton_John_album)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elton_John%27s_Greatest_Hits_Volume_II

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elton_John%27s_Greatest_Hits_Vol._3

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candle_in_the_Wind_1997

...and I have some additional songs, deep album cuts, as digital downloads.

I picked up this large hardcover volume in a used bookstore in the mid-Eighties:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/293054.Bernie_Taupin_The_One_Who_Writes_The_Words_For_Elton_John

Bernie Taupin. What a collaboration. On my way to work just last night, "These Dreams" was on the radio, and I was thinking what a great lyricist he is.

Henry, I don't have the Diamonds collection, but I do have the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, which, in my opinion is one of the best rock/pop LPs of the 1970s. Fantastic. Not a bad song on it. cool

While I am for the most part not a fan of Elton John's music, it has been omnipresent enough that I like a few of his songs. I also credit him with having his own sound, unlike Billy Joel, whom I actually like, but who often came across as a pastiche artist. At least Elton IS Elton, and he wore that Donald Duck outfit, so Reg wins on that front, too.

After decades of having forgotten all about its existence, for the past week "I'm Still Standing" has been stuck in my mind.

I also like his songs "Your Song"; "Daniel"; "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues"; "Tiny Dancer."

On the other hand, "Crocodile Rock"; "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" are imo truly putrid.

"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" was everywhere in the '70s, wasn't it? That song played endlessly back then.

My family had EJ's Greatest Hits LP--the one from the '70s with him sitting at the piano, wearing a white suit and hat with his hand on his chin.

Hi buddy! I saw Elton John in concert with my mom, aunt and cousin back in 1995, and it was a great concert! He's got so many great songs. BTW, the new DIAMONDS set is remastered and I think it's the best the songs have ever sounded. The 3 disc set comes with a 72 page hardcover book which is really nice.

Elton is legendary and one of my favorite pop/rock artists. His string of early to mid seventies albums are fantastic, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a masterpiece in my own opinion. Love Lies Bleeding, Grey Seal, All The Young Girls Love Alice, Roy Rogers, Harmony, the album is full of top notch pop songs and blazing rockers.

Don't Shoot Me is also a great album with a lot of excellent songs not released as singles.

I've avoided most of his greatest hits collections, since by their nature they recycle a lot of material.

We've had the good fortune to see him in concert a number of times, going back to around 1977 or so and as recently as around 4 years back, and he still puts on a great live rock concert

I'll try to pick get the 3-disc set soon. (I assume it's still available[?].)

I always liked Elton overall. And any guy who was such good friends with John Lennon as he was has to be a real cool cat too...

My friendly neighborhood postman delivered it just yesterday. I've been playing the heck out of Disc One (more of my Elton era -- the 1970s)!! Thanks for recommending it! smile

Me too. But I was really glad to have "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)", "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (being a big John Lennon and Beatles fan) and "Step Into Christmas". I remember all those songs when they first came out. "Empty Garden" even had a video the year MTV first started... embarrassment
