WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15

THE ROMANOFFS---trailer released for the new Amazon anthology series.

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbqQ6pHct64

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY---Ethan Peck (10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU), grandson of Gregory Peck, will play Spock in Season 2.

RAMBO 5---the sequel plot is described as, "Rambo teams up with a journalist to track down and rescue a group local girls that have been kidnapped by a Mexican sex trafficking ring, after trying to settling down to a quiet life stateside at the family ranch in Arizona after spending decades abroad."

THE AERONAUTS---photo released from the Amazon Studios movie starring Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne based on the true story of the epic 1862 scientific balloon journey by pilot Amelia Wren and scientist James Glaisher.

JOHN WICK 3: PARABELLUM---sequel photo released of Laurence Fishburne and Ian McShane.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD---martial artist Mike Moh (INHUMANS) will play Bruce Lee in the Quentin Tarantino movie about the Charles Manson Cult murders.

WESTWORLD---executive producer Jonathan Nolan talked about changes for Season 3, “I think it’s a radical shift. What’s compelling and appealing about these characters is that they’re not human. As we said in the show, humans are bound by the same loops the hosts are, in some ways even smaller. You couldn’t expect human characters to withstand and survive the kind of story that we’re telling. The hosts have a different version of mortality, a different outlook. I think clearly with Dolores, as she’s laid out, there is a longer view here, a larger set of goals."

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME---a rumor says Spider-Man will battle Hydro-Man in Venice, Italy in the sequel.

SPACE---Joel Kinnaman will star as a NASA astronaut in the untitled Apple/Sony Pictures Television/Ron Moore series. No plot details were released.

QUEEN FOR A DAY---Elizabeth Banks stars in this movie about the chaotic 1986 MTV contest in which the 10,000th caller would get Prince's UNDER THE CHERRY MOON premiere in their hometown followed by a concert.

DESIGNING WOMEN---Sony Pictures Television and producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason are developing a revival of her sitcom that ran on CBS from 1986-1993. It starred Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts and Jean Smart.

LITTLE WOMEN---Laura Dern is in talks to co-star with Meryl Streep in the movie based on the novel.

LADY AND THE TRAMP---Tessa Thompson (THOR: RAGNAROK) is in negotiations to provide the voice for Lady in the Walt Disney Pictures live-action/CGI remake of the 1955 animated movie.

CASTLE ROCK---Hulu renewed the series for Season 2.

FASTEST CAR---Netflix renewed the series for Season 2.

TRIVIA---the conspiracy movie CAPRICORN ONE starred both of Barbra Streisand's husbands: Elliott Gould and James Brolin.
The movie about a fake first manned mission to Mars also starred Sam Waterston, Brenda Vaccaro, Hal Holbrook, Karen Black, Telly Savalas and OJ Simpson.

Elliott Gould, who played a tv reporter in CAPRICORN ONE, was Streisand's first husband.

James Brolin was the mission commander in CAPRICORN ONE and is Streisand's second and current husband.

Noooo! This is going to be awful! I liked The Jungle Book, but it's more of a fantasy and it's easier to suspend my disbelief. There's no way they can pull off CGI dogs with real actors and make it convincing.

Of course everyone knows the first manned Mars mission was a fake. You be in a heap of trouble if you tried landing on Mars with the LEM!

I am with you, I did now know they were tarnishing another legacy movie.
The gorgeous (rare) widescreen Lady and the Tramp is a real delight, I watch it every year at least once.

They just can't stay away from TOS, can they? First they reboot it in movie form and now they're rebooting it on TV. Do something post-Nemesis. Wait, what, they are? Oh, with Picard? Jesus, guys. Make something that stands on its own. Wait, what? You can't? Well, duh! That much was obvious.

Bruce Lee as a character in Tarantino's new movie, eh? He's throwing everything he loved about the '70s in there, isn't he?

Uh...? Last I checked, the CinemaScope version of Lady was the version of this movie that's making the rounds of all it's current video releases. The Standard Academy Ratio version made simultaneously on the other hand, is a bit harder to find (having only been released on a VHS and Laserdisc in 1998).

No they're not. This is not a reboot of TOS. This is a younger Spock interacting with the characters of Discovery.

It's one of my favorite Disney animated films too.

They've gone as far with Spock as a character as possible. I don't see the point. The real charm of TOS was the interaction between Spock, Kirk and McCoy.

Okay. Maybe they'll surprise you, maybe they won't. Maybe they'll manage to bring something new to the character with the half-sister stuff and the fraught history, or maybe it'll be terrible. (TBH, I did read the first Discovery novel, which does have Michael and Spock working together, and their relationship played really well, so maybe there's some hope here.)

Bruce Lee as a character in Tarantino's new movie, eh? He's throwing everything he loved about the '70s in there, isn't he?

Well, the murders happened in 1969, but regardless, Bruce Lee was friends with Polanski & Tate. He provided martial arts instruction to Polanski, and he did the fight choreography on "The Wrecking Crew" movie, co-starring Tate. He lived not too far from their house where the murders took place.

Another of the murder victims was celebrity hairstylist, Jay Sebring, who was also Lee's hairdresser.

According to some reports, for a short while, Polanski even considered that Lee was the murderer. Apparently this was due to Lee mentioning that he (Lee) had lost a pair of glasses, and the police had told Polanski that a pair of glasses at the crime scene "could" belong to the murderer(s). Polanski, being grief stricken, and possibly somewhat paranoid, figured that Lee was physically capable of killing multiple people in the house. However, Polanski supposedly drove Lee to get a new pair of glasses and learned that Lee's prescription was different than the glasses at the crime scene, so that idea quickly vanished.

It'll be interesting to see what Tarantino does. This may sound strange, but I'd like to see a dream sequence, either in the course of the movie, or as an after-credits scene, involving a "what if" scenario: what if Bruce Lee had been at the Polanski/Tate house the night the Manson "family" arrived? Sure, he could have been killed too, as a gun was used, but depending on where Lee could have been in the house at just that moment, the gun-wielder "could" potentially have been de-armed, and the tragedy "might" have been avoided. Such a "what if" scene in the film (showing Lee beating the living tar out of the Manson "family") might be cathartic for some of the audience.

I like your idea of a dream sequence with Bruce Lee. I can visualize it going a couple of different ways:
1. How Bruce Lee would likely have handled it – with technical advice from Dan Inosanto, etc. Lee’s real-life approach to combat was quite different from what was typically depicted in his films - with the possible exception of the final moments of his fight with Jabbar in “GOD”.
2. The prototypical onscreen “Chop Socky” approach, with the cat-like screams, wild-eyed facial expressions, etc.
Seeing as it’s Tarantino and his love for those 70s actioners, it might be great.
I expect there would have to be some Bruce Lee in action stuff, just for the sake of the fans, and I would really like to see some realistic depiction of his “style” of teaching. Perhaps along the lines of his appearances in “Longstreet” – that’s about as close as it ever got onscreen.

I would prefer your option 1. Perhaps the scene would come about due to Lee wondering what he would/could have done had he been there, as he, along with most of Hollywood, became almost paranoid with respect to their personal safety following the murders (and prior to the arrests).

I almost forgot something else. Steve McQueen had been invited to dinner with Tate & friends that evening, but he went on a date instead. He also could have been at the house when the Manson "family" showed up. And McQueen (like Sebring) had taken martial arts lessons from Lee.
So imagine a scenario where Lee and/or McQueen were at the house. Also keep in mind, that 3 of the 4 attackers were women. If the male with the gun could have been disarmed, then the women would/should have been less difficult to subdue. The mind boggles!

On a side note, there was a French tv series called The Aeronauts, shown by the BBC in the early 70s.

When John J is done with the Mexican one, he can go and crush the one in Pennsylvania and in Huddersfield, UK.

And then smash the hydra's head in Rome.

Yup, & it's been quite a few years since I've seen the film, but I remember the mission only seemed to take a few weeks (or that's how it seemed), & I think it should be something like 2-3 years to Mars & back (or something like that, I can't be bothered to look it up). It's as if before filming someone went through the script & every time they saw Moon written they crossed it out & put Mars.
