Just throwing it out there.

I watched the new Scream Factory Blu with a friend the other day - and couldn't stop paying 100% attention to the score. So epic and creepy. Plucking and crunching of strings that would be glorified later by James Horner and Marco Beltrami. Plus some sentimental cues early on for the scene with Peter Billingsly and his father. Bellowing piano reverberated and haunting.

I know Kritzerland released Kaproff's brilliant score for "When a Stranger Calls" a few years back...hopefully they or someone can bring this equally stirring score to light.

Just a thought.

It's really good, isn't it?

It's one of those early 80's horror scores like R. Folk's THE SLAYER, R. Band's MUTANT and the like that's way more ambitious than the visuals and does some extra heavy lifting to try and make the film work. A really good balance of avant garde technique and sweet, good-natured thematic orchestral writing.

I'd happy pick up a release of this one!

I saw this movie on TV when I was a kid and the score was really vivd and present, specially in the first scenes with the boy and the father, I never saw the movie again but remember to be in the same vein as the trouble with harry (pastoral?)

Kimmel must be enjoying the smoky CA heat to not have come in yet and lecture us again that YOU asked for Stranger Calls and YOU didnt purchase it....

That said I'd buy Valley in a beat, good score & odd movie. Kaproff's Greg Crewdson is a nice chamber piece...I guess Kimmel's Ants album he did is good too....

;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
There, enough winkies???

Don`t forget Kaprof`s melodic and memorable scores for Falcon Crest. He definetely was the best composer of the show.

Oh yes - His scores for Falcon Crest were OUTSTANDING. He composed most of the third, fourth seasons and a good deal of the fifth season as well. Yes, a maestro in his own way, and criminally overlooked.

Hope "Death Valley" gets a proper release. Maybe in time for Halloween.

It`s difficult to describe Kaprroff`s musical approach for Falcon Crest. It`s sort of gothic with some medieval colors and definetely dramatic and thematic passages. Sort of Barry meets Delerue.
All I know is that way back in the 80s I was absolutely blown away by Kaproff`s themes and musical colors.
Since every third rate TV score gets released these days, maybe some of those fantastic orchestral 80s TV scores will eventually see the light of day.
But I doubt it since Falcon Crest wasn`t a SciFi Marvel or DC show frown
