Either one of two things is happening around here or maybe a combination of both. I can't tell.
Intelligent and civil discussions are increasingly invaded by some asinine commenter with their well practiced Seagull Style of Commenting - Swoops in, makes a ton of noise, craps all over everybody, then leaves.

Or it's always been like this and my tolerance is worn thin.

I mean, is it me or does every-single-thread come to this point?

Not sure what the chances are at this point of updating the technology of the board... but man, if there could be a voting system to smack these fools down who just about 100% of the time do the opposite of contributing to the discussion... yeah. That'd be great.

Sorry, I think this is highly exaggerated.

Majority determines who stays? In my opinion this is a dumb, dumb idea.

Basically the "Report Abuse" button which, after say 12 different members hit it, that post gets deleted. Moderated by a jury of your peers, instead of Count Alucard (sorry, David). I think I just invented "blog justice."

I would like to down vote this idea. wink

Guys, I don't think we should be asking for software upgrades. The way I heard it, Lukas is paying the site upkeep out of his own pocket just because he likes the community.

Even if money were no object (and it is one), the last time FSM upgraded its Bboard software, the whole prior history of the site had to be discarded (this was October 2000). And we have a LOT more history to lose now. I'd leave well enough alone.

I think Tom has a point.
It may not be every thread, but lately things are getting a little hot under the collar more often.

So simple. All one needs then is their own FSM Milice, with fingers poised constantly over the "Report Abuse" button, to have their way. (As if that weren't already happening.) wink

Tom, I empathize with you. Also, I like your Seagull analogy. So true.

There's also "Add to Ignore List", but that's probably a bit more extreme than you're looking for.

Interestingly, the forum offers me the opportunity to add *myself* to my ignore list (which is currently empty.) I'm awfully tempted to click it and find out what would happen...

Not sure what threads we're talking about here. Things seem the same old to me. It's clear when someone is trolling. And what would down voting accomplish, public shaming? Hardly a mature response.

What if you vanish? Lest we forget, there is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. I wouldn't risk it.

I've seen this vote mechanism at work elsewhere on different forums but it appears to have potential for abuse just the same.

I am always bothered by the self-appointed thread police. Instead of commenting on the thread's content, they attack the need for the thread to begin with. I say, if you don't like the thread, just SCROLL PAST IT. Why do you have to bring us all down?

I have never down voted a post in any digital space. I won't do it here either.

Easy: Watch the climax of the final episode of THE PRISONER...

For sure! The LAST thing we need is another "Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine"!

It took me a couple seconds, but that's a good one.

I'd agree with this. Lukas recently paid for a new, much faster server, and that's the most important thing. I think we'll just have to live with the archaic interface. There's a kind of beauty in its simplicity too.

No, I wasn't endorsing his plan--I was saying that his assessment of the thread-crapping may have some validity.
