Leo, I think we discussed this album in the live section before, since it’s sold only at concerts together with the merchandizing stuff. As far as I’m concerned, I think it’s really worth getting it for the last piece, ARCATE DI ARCHI E BAMBINI, based upon the track Grande violino, piccolo bambino written initially for the UNICEF movie TEN TO SURVIVE (1979) and expanding it. By the way, it’s a pity this track has not been re-released on CD. Still, you can find a somewhat similar version on this album:

It´s the first track that is based on the piece from Ten to Survive. The last track (Arcate di archi e bambini) is a long version of Above the Clouds from Fat Man and Little Boy. The first half of Arcate di archi e bambini is arranged for solo violin with dreamy strings and the second half is for strings and a children choir. The theme from Malèna appears for some brief moments during the first half. I really like this piece. It´s not really melodic music but it has a great effect on me. I like to sit in a dark room, listen and just dream away.

Mathias, I agree with your remark but I still consider ARCATE as a new concert rendition of Grande violino, piccolo bambino from TEN TO SURVIVE. There are indeed two Morricone tracks on this soundtrack and the other one - for children chorus - is indeed placed as the opener and gave its name to the BAMBINI DEL MONDO CD.

Here's my review of the album which I bought from his Helsinki concert:

You are right. I haven´t been listening to the cd in a while and my knowledge of Ten To Survive is poor. My remark wasn´t meant to blame you for wrong information, I just wanted to clarify my thoughts and Above the Clouds was my first recognition.

Thank you! :-)

This is a great sentence from your review:

"The whole piece has a feel of flying through the air with heavenly voices calling from beyond."

It seems like the piece has the same effect on both of us.

Mathias, there's no problem at all and I honestly didn't feel blamed by your remark. We're here to discuss things and we have the right to disagree.
In the meantime, I listened again to Above the clouds and I must say the resemblance between this track and ARCATE seems to me less blatant than the one between TEN TO SURVIVE and ARCATE. A reason for this may be the presence of the tune sung by Edda. I may be wrong of course.

I've finally managed to track a copy of this CD down.....not the easiest of listens but fascinating all the same.
A real "curiosity piece"

That won’t be everybody’s cup of tea, but it’s certainly mine. Then I also love Chi L’ha Vista Morire, which clearly comes from the same towering musical intellect.

Grazie for posting!
