I recently purchased Season 6 of 'Big Bang Theory' on Blu-ray. I purchased it, new, from an E-bay seller in Canada. My package arrived yesterday via Canada-Post. Everything appeard fine. Package was wrapped in cellophane, outer sleeve held the plastic case. The inside held two discs with a booklet. HOWEVER, the artwork (faces of cast) on the discs appear somewhat darker than any of the previous seasons. My main concern was that the playing side was so very dark blue, it was nearly black in appearance. Is this a new process from the manufacturer? The video playback was perfect, so far. Could this be a dvd-r? Or is this just an anomoly? Thanks.

Thanks for the article. It was, an extremely long article and it branched into other (related) topics which I found fascinating. Unfortunately, there was no answer to my question, I now know it's possible to make copies, but this quality matches all the previous seasons of 'Big Bang Theory' in Blu-ray. At least to my eye. I still wonder WHY the playing sides are nearly black though.
What I found fascinating was midway through the article, it veered into the story of 'The Format Wars', when Blu-ray was fighting against it's competitor, HD-DVD. I recall those arguments in this very message board back what, about a dozen years ago. Apparently, HD-DVD players and HD-DVD films stopped manufacture around 2007 or 2008, and that there's currently a 'robust' business on e-Bay with those old players and the 431 Film Titles that were released in that format. That IS a substantial library if someone has them all. Does anyone here have a HD-DVD Player or films?

Sorry can't directly answer your question, though if they're Blu-Ray to Blu-Ray copies then they would/should look just as good as the originals. It would certainly be a dead giveaway if they burnt HD content on a DVD-R, you would see a noticeable downgrade in video quality, at the very least it would look closer to 720 than 1080.

It's the printing, either on the case or on the disc that might be a giveaway, which seems to be the case here.

As far as the format wars, I learned a long time ago from the Beta/VHS battle to wait these things out!

My understanding Is Yes, if the underside of the disc is dark blue or black, it's probably counterfeit. UNLESS you bought if from one of the legitimate MOD services like Warner Archives, etc. But The Big Bang Theory should not be blue on the underside.

Thanks, MikeP. Yeah, it's very dark blue, almost black. The outside box (sleeve) holds the plastic container, which holds the two Blu-ray discs. There's a booklet inside as well, just like all the other seasons. The first disc, (I've only played 3 episodes so far) plays and delivers 'stunning' imagery, to my eye, just like all the previous seasons of the show I own on Blu-ray. If it's a dup, it's made from another copy, but, they all have some sort of 'anti-copying' devices on them, right? So, how did someone get around the anti-copying devices? It's from a seller in Quebec, Canada, and I don't particularly want to ask him about this, as I bought it (at HALF the price Amazon was asking for), as there hasn't been any playback issues yet. But it will take me sometime to finish all of the episodes, perhaps a couple of weeks. A QUESTION: If this IS a dup, is there a chance all the video information will somehow 'vanish' over time? Like cases of 'CD - Rot' I've read about on these threads?

There's software that can "hack" or "jailbreak" anything. You just need to know how to do it.

Does anyone here have a HD-DVD Player or films?[/end quote] Hi Dave,I have a Toshiba HD-DVD player That I bought at the beginning of the Bluray ,HD-DVD war.Still have around 70 titles. After switching to Bluray I used the HD-DVD player at my parents place to show them the movies I had. They have now passed and the player is back home with me. At the time I thought the quality was as good as bluray. But bluray won so we move on.I also still have a Beta tape machine and laser disc player with many laser discs. Anyway, sorry to go off topic here.If you have any more questions drop me an email davejd@ymail.com. Best wishes
