Scarlett Johansson has pulled out of the "Rub & Tug" project, has apologized for her insensitivity in daring to believe that she could play someone unlike herself, and has expressed thankfulness for the education she has received from "the community." That pretty much shuts the door going forward on anyone other than transgenders playing transgenders. If a star with the clout of Johansson couldn't stand the withering criticism, how can any normal actor?
The other side of it is that she's somewhat fresh off of another controversy, where she was blamed for "white-washing" for her casting on Ghost In The Shell.
