No it seems you cannot ignore it - I had to pay £16.60 for my package from Varese Sarabande of two discs! And I was over by nine pence - Arghhh!

Well my order was delivered today after I'd paid the post office the ransom they demanded of £12.10. This on top of the £25 I paid to SAE meant that for 1 CD I am now paying £37!!!!!!! This bloody hobby is getting too damned expensive.

Wherever possible it's more economical to order direct from Amazon.com because, although they add the import fee to the total cost (20% for the UK), there is no additional Post Office charge of £8.00. Unfortunately, however, not all of the labels make their releases available through Amazon.

think this post needs a title change as it has nothing to do with SAE, they are simply following the rules, that they have kindly dodged for us for a long time.

Also, for those, like me, not in the USA there are some tricks that may work.

As Doug has stated order from Amazon & save the “broker fee” which I personally think is a giant cash grab con, but then what say do we have it the matter.

Or make friends with a person in the USA, see if they want to have your delivery & have them put a new customs label on it for say “Used CDs value $1 Gift”. If your paying them with Pay Pal make sure you cover the PP fees or the person will be out of pocket on the re-mailing costs. No idea if internal mail in the USA & then onto you works out or not, but International Customs can only charge against the declared amount or against an invoice packed with the goods. So, make your USA contact happy & maybe that will help.

Finally batch up your orders, the “broker fee” can only be charged once, so although you have tax on the entire package, the fee is only charged once. I.E. a $200 order to the UK has 20% + 8 (UK pounds) but so does a $19.99 order have 20% + 8 (UK pounds). Makes sense to have a larger order & one “broker fee”.

I do option three with blu rays from Australia, wait for a large batch & then a 1 off fee + Canadian duties, if it is not on Amazon Canada & I buy from say Amazon USA or UK or Germany, I pay the duty but no “broker fee” & so saves $18 Canadian dollars (fee + tax).

Folks taxes are here to stay & it’s no fault of SAE or Varese or any label, it’s down to your individual governments & mail companies, Canada Post grab every penny they can & I am sure Royal Mail do as well.
Fact of life.

Enjoy your music despite the taxes

Regards

Andy b

I don't know how practical it would be, but I'd like to see SAE (and others) have a 'batching' service, where I/we can order and pay for CDs when they are released, but not have them delivered until there's a practical batch (six perhaps, or seven maybe, at most?). Then the postage is calculated for the batch, and the Royal Mail fee only hits once across several albums. The biggest advantage of such a service is that desired but limited number CDs can be paid for and secured before they sell out, and we wouldn't have to pay postage and charges on each and every one.

Arse. Hit by the import charge AGAIN. Foolishly, I thought it cut in at £20. But it turns out it's £15.
What did the Lonely Guy dollar price convert to? ... aaaaaaaaaaabout £17.

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really must stop myself even attempting to buy anything other than dirt-cheap second-hand stuff from the US.

I have been waiting for an answer for over three weeks now. I have send three messages. No reply! Where are they? Katie usually answers in 24 hours.

Have had this happen recently.

Been waiting weeks for a replacement disc.

No response to recent emails either.

Have dealt with them for over twenty years . . .

What's going on there?

Graham

Sorry, but Katie has been "in and out" with maternity leave as the new mom of a baby daughter. Some of our responses have slipped through the cracks, including yours, but we'll put this in front of her so you should have a response ASAP. Thanks for following up!

So the delay was actually nothing more than just a pregnant pause.

Hi Graham,

I do not show any replacement CD requests being held. May you please send me an e-mail at info@screenarchives.com with your request and order number?

Thank you,

Katie

Think I'll use that explanation when I'm late for work...
