Great conductor, champion of composers banned under Soviet rule and brilliant interpreter of Shostakovich’s music. Thank you for all the superb recordings, Maestro.

For someone so prominent I'm sorry to say I have so few of his recordings ... and most of those are piano concerti (Liszt and Tchaikovsky). Perhaps many of his recordings are for the less well-known/marketed labels and hence don't feature in the numerous box sets I've bought these last few years.

What a pity! I really liked his recordings of Prokofiev's music as well as his recording of Swan Lake (which aside from a super rare CD, can be found on YouTube).

His recording of Swan Lake:

I have quite a few LPs of Russian music he conducted, and still play them to this day. Most of them were released in the 60s and 70s on the Melodiya/Angel label.

Last evening I listened to his complete recording of Prokofiev's Cinderella with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. It's by far the best version available.

A 1974 performance of Alexander Nevsky on my first visit to Chicago's Orchestra Hall remains a vivid memory. R.I.P. Maestro.

Good choices, Mark. I'll never forget how he opened up Shostakovich's third symphony for me after liking but not loving it for decades.

Sad news, but a long and productive life with many, many great performances. Thank God for recordings!

RIP Gennady Rozhdestvensky.
