British label 101 Films has officially announced that it will add three new titles to its Blu-ray catalog: James Goldstone's thriller Rollercoaster (1977), Jake Scott's Plunkett & Macleane (1999), and David Zucker's BASEketbal (1998).

Rollercoaster

Synopsis: 101 Films presents an unforgettable trip filled with sense-shattering twists and hairpin turns in James Goldstone's Rollercoaster, starring Timothy Bottoms (The Last Picture Show), George Segal (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), Richard Widmark (Kiss of Death) and Henry Fonda (12 Angry Men).

With its perilous scenario and stellar ensemble cast, Rollercoaster was released in the slipstream of highly successful disaster movies including Airport (1970), The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and The Towering Inferno (1974). While it was marketed as the thematic successor to these box office hits, instead it plays out as a cat-and-mouse thriller in the Hitchcockian tradition.

A determined terrorist (Bottoms) begins to turn America's amusement parks into battlefields. The tension mounts as affable safety inspector Harry Calder (Segal) attempts to track down the saboteur who has targeted the country's most popular rollercoaster and its riders for senseless destruction. The edge-of-the-seat excitement mounts as the battle of wits between Calder and the terrorist builds to an explosive climax.

Thank you for that news relay. I'm reserving a seat on that one. I love that film.

George in his typical tired of all the shenanigans Segalness, Richard putting his typical Widmark on "THE" government character. Bottoms as a really creepy, sleazy, mono-manic criminal. The settings and the times, somehow in the late 70s they could make the world look 10 times bigger than it really was.
And then there is the callas reaction of the public at the end where the entertainment goes on about 15 seconds after they all saw a man getting hit by a roller coaster.
Topping it off is Shiffrin's Roller Coaster theme; just perfect.

Really underrated film - maybe the Sensurround gimmick hurt it more than helped - but it's a strong cat and mouse thriller with a nice wry sense of humor. Don't forget it was written by the great team of Levinson & Link, no strangers to nifty crime thrillers .

Even as a kid the rollercoaster going off the rails with those dummies was one of the fakest things I've ever seen.

I saw the film in Sensurround upon its initial release. I wonder how they're going to handle the Sensuround track on the disc.
