Who else thinks it's 'about time'? America doesn't even care about Soccer. And you can count out Canada and Mexico (now) even supporting America's bid.

We havent hosted it since 1966.
2002 japan was ok But judging by the last few world cups it wouldnt be worth having.

Ive watched every match throughout since argentina 78 and saw some great tournaments but i cant drum up much enthusiasm for this current one in russia.

Britain is an interesting proposal, Dave, since it would involve a joint bid by the English, Welsh, Scottish and one or more Irish FAs, with impossible politics. England would bid for it on its own. And give that we have the infrastructure and the stadiums already in place, of course the complete pillocks at FIFA wouldn’t DREAM of England getting it.

We did bid for the 2018 one, but were eliminated in the first round of voting. We only got two out of 22 votes. Presumably our rivals paid more wink

There's talk of us bidding for 2030.

This is the equivalent of the tactical voting in the eurovision song contest. They dont like us and they dont like our hoolis. We are the millwall of world football. big grin

I still think very large backhanders would have to be made. I'm sure the "cleaned-up" FIFA still loves a bung. All those foreign players, it would be just like a normal Saturday in the Premier League.

A lot of Americans like soccer. Didn't we invent the two words, "soccer moms?"

If Britain ever gets the World Cup, I shall divide my time staying with Bill and TG before and after the games. Thanks, guys.

You can pitch your tent on our lawn anytime, Joan. Be aware, it slopes.

I have an old sleeping bag somewhere Joan, and we have a nice hedge out the front that protects from the wind.
I may even have a cardboard box in the garage.
I certainly dont mind making an extra mug of tea in the morning and leaving it on the doorstep

Interesting article imagining if Engerland had won the bid to host this year's tournament...

I expect the N America bid to win the vote today. Money talks...

Yup. That's why it's going to Qatar in four years.

North America it is. Might have to time a visit over there. Might be camping on Joan’s lawn rather than the other way around.

If there are any matches held in Florida, they'll most likely be well north of Miami. Hell, even the Copa America Centenario* didn't see fit to hold any matches here, where there is a substantial Spanish-speaking, football*-loving population.

At least we have the Man Utd*-Real Madrid* friendly this July (and we had Barca-Real last summer at premium prices).

*My fellow Americans will have to Google these terms.

Wow, Bill, just can't thank you enough. However, I prefer coffee to tea.

Coffee in the doorstep then.
If weve got any.
