Watched this film for the first time in decades.

I've seen the film probably ten times in various formats. That's why I was surprised at a pretty obvious continuity error in the beginning of the film. Disclosure: Spielberg's films in my opinion are full of continuity errors, but I'm discounting the ones he does on purpose in order to drive his narrative.

Now about the third scene in Jurassic Park we switch to the Badlands where Grant and gang are unearthing a Raptor fossil from the ground. The camera pulls out from a birds eye view and you can clearly see the shape of the fossil.

The next scene they set off a seismic blast and view the radar image as it appears on the computer screen underneath a tent. It's the exact same fossil. So clearly these two scenes are reversed. Maybe for narrative reasons Spielberg switched the scenes around, but unearthing the fossil before you discover the fossils location is clearly a continuity error.

All of which is relatively small potatoes compared to the fact that Velociraptor mongoliensis lived in Mongolia, not Montana, and was tall enough to viciously slash at your ankles.

Oh great. Another Sean Nethery, this time fact-checking FANTASY!

Decades implies at least thirty years.
Plus, Sol said he has seen it TEN times. Cant possibly be "decades" since he last viewed it. That's a "continuity error " in my book!
Lol.

Well it seems like decades since I last saw the film.

I didn't know there weren't any Raptor fossils in Montana, but I'm willing to let that go because its a movie and most people don't care about science fact. Besides they also made the Raptors three time larger than actual size as you also hinted at.

I'm talking about a mistake in narrative and editing...

I assumed raptors were an invention when I saw it the week it opened.
Turned out it was a recently discovered species- after my childhood obsession ended- and partly fiction.

Haven't noticed that myself, and I've seen the film more than 60(!) times over the years. I'll look for it the next time. If it's the same fossil, I'm guessing they used the same 'cast' to save money.

CinemaSins sin video for the film (this was back when their videos were shorter; today I'd imagine it would be longer and have plenty more to point out):

Dont care about and never notice continuity errors.
Plot holes is another matter.

Well I'm glad I picked up on one they didn't pick up on. big grin Like I said I discount a lot of the stuff in the video because that's classic, Spielberg I don't give a sh*t. Their continuity errors "on purpose" in order to drive his narrative. Hilarious about the misspellings though.

Yeah, & a really big one was in the last film. The big man-made super mean dino was locked in the secure enclosure, & his heat signature disappears! Has he escaped? (you'd think they'd know about it if he had). Luckily he has an electric thingy implanted in him, sending signals, so headquarters can pinpoint exactly where he is, just pick up the phone & ask them, but no...our nearly brain-dead hero goes into the enclosure, sees a few scratches on the wall & says, he's escaped! Open the big doors (why?), cue dino out, much running around & extras being eaten.

I hope the new one is better than that.

Didn't the dino remove the chip?

Well I'm not going to watch it again, but I think he removed the chip once he was out. Thor will know.

I want a dark version made, really scary, with leading characters & kids being killed, guts ripped out & eaten. smile

The Indominus Rex has the ability to camouflage itself, including 'blacking out' the heat signature. A result of the DNA tinkering. So Owen and the others have no reason to assume it's still in the enclosure. There are no plot holes or continuity errors here. In fact, one of the best scenes of the entire movie.

Watched this film for the first time in decades.

That often? It was hard to watch once, what with the annoying kids and granddad, sappy Williams music and awestruck in-love reaction shots to the fx. Possibly I'm in the minority on this.

Ah, but I notice you don't mention that they could pinpoint the dinos location with a phone callsmile

It's not a plot hole or continuity error, just lazy & stupid scriptwriting. Let's agree to differ, I'm with Last Child, these films aren't worth a debate.
