It's appalling to think that Orion actually tried to replace Rozsa's score!

With WHAT?!?!?! embarrassment

Going by Nicholas Meyer’s essay for the FSM, they were planning on replacing Rozsa’s score with a more “modern” score by Bill Conti until Meyer essentially blackmailed them into keeping Rozsa’s score by running a full-page ad in Variety praising the score (and thank the Lord it worked).

I'll throw in my endorsement for LAST EMBRACE and EYE OF THE NEEDLE. Great later-day scores of his, not an ounce less melodic inspiration or diminished passion in the writing.

I'm surprised "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" has not been reissued by now.

I've always been in love with his music for Providence. Definitively on my Rozsa top 3.

I agree and those two works for sure can rival any of the non melodic forgettable scores in the last 10-15 years.

In total agreement with you.

I've always been in love with his music for Providence. Definitively on my Rozsa top 3.

I recall he liked doing the film, so it might rank higher in MR's estimation than the others.

I would add FEDORA to your shopping list. It has some ravishing melodies.

Indeed.

I've always been in love with his music for Providence. Definitively on my Rozsa top 3.

Me too, even if I have to say that the sense of finality and regret that the music evokes are, sometimes, emotionally tough on me.
It is reported that Alan Resnais explained the movie to MR saying "it's death"..and MR obliged brilliantly.
Such sublime music.

I obviously need to listen to Providence again. The main theme is very enchanting, but there's a certain percussive thing Rozsa uses in the score that I find wildly offputting. But of course I could just program that out.
