A thing I've noticed multiple times over the last few years is that movies tend to introduce the same character or situation multiple times. Like, they'll show us a flashback, and then have a character narrate what we just saw in flashback, and later on flash back to the flashback.

Do they not trust us? Is this an artifact of trying to make sure things get across to global audiences who may not speak English? Is it an artifact of overproduced movies with too many reshoots whose pieces don't quite fit together elegantly? Are Hollywood writers (or some of them) losing touch with how a narrative works? I just don't get why this keeps happening.

I'm always interested in analyzing narrative techniques. What are a few examples where you have seen this sort of introduction recently?

This! Neflix Lost In Space is a prime example.

Suicide Squad was crazy for introducing characters several times but I think it's well acknowledged the entire film is a botch job.
