I have kind of a love/hate thing with Bacharach's music. I think Casino Royale, What's New Pussycat, and After the Fox are all a lot of fun. Butch Cassidy has some really nice moments. There are isolated instrumental tracks on his first several A&M albums that are wonderful.
I recently got ARTHUR and ARTHUR 2 by Bacharach along with the film scores of Ron Howard cd. Which of his soundtracks do you guys recommend?
I always thought Bacharach was a better songwriter than film composer. Having Hal David as a lyricist certainly didn't hurt. His arrangements always sounded a little thin especially in his string writing. The "Casino Royale" score was orchestrated by Jack Hayes and Leo Shuken as was "Butch Cassidy" and "Lost Horizon" for which they also composed some incidental music. Jack and Leo traveled to London to work on "Casino".
Henry, Try and find 'Together ?' an obscure rare soundtrack that Burt Bacharach composed with Paul Anka back in 1979. It's not one of his best known works but it's well worth seeking out. Here's a couple of tracks.....
If there's no objection to opening up this topic to include Bacharach "knock-offs," I would suggest Artie Butler's The Love Machine. Even includes a couple of songs with vocals by Dionne Warwick!
I don't think this has been on CD, but still-sealed vinyl LPs are pretty easy to find, and generally dirt cheap too.

I have that album and it's great. But the film itself is truly awful!
