I have seen two of the films he directed, the great One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The People Vs Larry Flynt. I used to have the Thomas Newman CD from Flynt, but I have since sold it as it wasn't particularly memorable. RIP Milos Forman.

I have one of Miloš Forman's early Czech films (The Firemen’s Ball) on home video. Condolences towards friends and family.

Most filmmakers care about style and substance, but with Forman, there was a humanity that is surprising and relatable, no matter the subjects. He loved all his characters. It's just a shame that he never got to do more - far more - but what's there is inspiring enough for anyone lucky enough to experience his stories.

Milos was, imho, the best filmmaker ever made. And, as it happens, my most desired score and missing cue come from his films. Goya’s Ghosts had a great score, sadly not on disc. It’s credited to Varhan Bauer, although two other composers contributed cues (Jose Nieto and Josh Saentz who did the credit sequence). Two absolutely killer cues in it (the creation of Goya’s prints, the freeing of Inquisition prisoners). And there’s a cue in Larry Flynt which didn’t make the CD. Presumably Thomas Newman. The scene where Vincent Schiavelli is asked to shake Courtney Love’s hand. As he gets close he sees the state she’s in. A trippy moment perfectly captured in the music. And I had a friend, an actor, who had a small bit part in The People vs Larry Flynt, Rand Hopkins, who played Justice Scalari in and a couple of his lines made it through to the final cut of the film. Sadly both him and now Milos are both gone. He was wonderful in it. Just one scene, but he has to nail a public figure, convey authority and even gets some comic timing in there. Sad to hear he’s gone.

RIP I was nuts about Amadeus when it first came out, but over time liked it less and less. That said, I'm very interested in seeing his other films.
