I just found a decently priced copy of Prometheus THE SWARM..( only have the LP, but obviously a lot missing ) around 39,00 euros.
My question...is it worth to purchase it now or should I wait for a LALALAND or otherwise release in the near future?
Or better ..when or is it happening at all?

Enjoy your LP. I paid a dollar for my copy.

Better yet, enjoy the film. It's a masterpiece. wink

In 2016, someone suggested in a Quartet Records thread that The Swarm expanded could conceivably come from them. MV replied "Nope", which many of us took to mean that it would be coming from LLL. They haven't released it yet - so either we're wrong, or it's taking LLL longer than they thought to get it out.

Well...than I must say this comment does not help..for
the LP is missing a whole lotta music..
and Prometheus`SWARM CD is up to over 100,00 Euro/Dollar.
So 39 might be just fine , considering it won't happen in the near future.

Unless LLL are releasing it soon.

I think it's worth buying even if a new edition comes out some time soon. Much as I love the original release program (I snatched it up on cassette in the late 80's), I've played the Prometheus more times than I can count.

Besides, if you buy it now, a new edition will be released, and if you don't, it won't. That's the Murphy's Law of soundtracks. wink

Moolik, don't know if this helps, but the Prometheus CD is available on ebay for 69.99 USD. Looks like int'l shipping is 7 USD from Japan. Check it out, it you haven't already done so.

My point was, is it worth $50 or whatever to you to get the expanded CD when you already have some of the music on LP? Does the LP provide a reasonably representative sampling of the music, even if some music is missing? If it is worth it to you, then jump on it. For me, I would never pay that much for an expanded CD when I already have the LP. Each of us draws the line at a different place.

I do like the expanded Prometheus. It was about as good as I could have hoped it would be. I was also only ever familiar with the LP album, but the CD was a revelation by comparison. It is as spectacular an expansion from any of the labels well versed in such things as can be.

The only downside is there are no photos or expansive essays accompanying the soundtrack presentation by way of liner notes. If you want to read all about it then wait, if not, get it without regret. It also depends on what the image of any future release will be based upon, don't you think?

Maybe Ford can say something about the Prometheus, as I believe he had a part to play in producing it.

Edit: The big central 'yay' for the Prometheus is probably the enlarged upon rendering of "Exact Instructions." That may have something to do with my appreciation of it.

@OnyaBirri.
I appreciate your comment and your thoughts.
Nevertheless I think 30 min of extra music is worth the " bargain" for me but I can totally understand your point.I own some LP s myself and always go for my real favorites when it comes to expanded scores.
But I never regret it when I get them...If you dont mind me saying so..give it a try ...you will get some nice treats.
cheers

Oh, I have plenty of expansions. It's just that the value of any given expansion is relative to how good the original LP was.

I'd disagree with most here.

While I generally LOVE Goldsmith expansions, since there's always SO much new thematic material or developmental material, this one didn't impress me so much. Which is odd, since the LOGAN'S RUN and BOYS FROM BRAZIL expansions or just chock full.

That said, though, I'm not really willing to part with mine.

Hmmm.

Spinning the LP now. Totally digging it.

Part of my bargain-basement late-70s Goldsmith trilogy, along with Capricorn One and Outland.
