This title will be released on April 13, 2018.

I guess this title cant be re-released enough times by each label. Intrada will be next in line to do it. wink

Well dang. As someone who cares about good liner notes I might spring for the "exclusive new" ones. smile

I already have the Kritzerland CD, but it's nice for this to be back in print for those who missed out on it. Now if only LLL could also reissue White Witch Doctor (I missed out on that one).

It will undoubtedly sell well. I don't need to upgrade (I've got the box set from Varese) so I hope those who've missed out in the past can snatch it up!

Got the Kritzerland so will probably pass on this unless it offers a significant upgrade - the Kritzerland is terrific.

But great to see it back on the market for those that missed the previous versions. A Herrmann release should always be cause for celebration.

Remember the film's classic words of warning:

"Barada Klaatu Nikto"

Translation: Barada (Beware...) Klaatu (Kirgo...) Nikto (Notes).

I have the Varese rerecording, but this looks like a good thing to get, original recording of the score.

Too classic a score to be ever out of print.

Right! This is of course one of the most iconic soundtracks of all time. And this score will always find new fans.
So no wonder he will be released again and again.
Curious! I thought last year when I acquired JOUNREY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH,
that perhaps THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL would be released next in the VARESE-500-Series.
Well, maybe someday after the LA-LA LAND version is sold out ...

If the Journey reissue is anything to go by, if Varese did reissue this in the Varese 500 series, it would not have lasted long, so it’s probably a good thing LLL are the ones reissuing this.

Oh come on, if you actually wanted it, you would have found it already. Bruce has a copy on Amazon for the normal price. ProsePrevails in the trading forum is selling it along with alot of other classics.

This is probably my favorite Herrmann score. I have the Fox, Kritzerland, and re-record. I did my own edit of the latter, in which I reduced the (extreme) dynamic range, used crossfades, and deleted the two patriotic numbers. It is my favorite version.

At least Titus design is an improvement over all of the previous versions.
on the other hand I don't think I really need 4th version of this.

I have zero versions of this because I procrastinate too much. This time it's gonna be mine!

Wouldn't be the first time I rebought something just for the Jim Titus touch (TM)! But I'm also curious who's doing the new notes.

Wasn't this recorded in stereo originally?

Wasn't this recorded in stereo originally?

Not according to Nick Redman. From this interview: http://www.runmovies.eu/record-producer-nick-redman-speaks-out/

"It wasn’t in stereo; we only mixed it in stereo. The way they would record on three-strip nitrate optical was they’d use what’s called a close-up and a long-shot, and then the theremins would be recorded on a different piece of film, and then the stingers, which are the sound effects used for Gort’s ray.

We took the long shot and the close shot and melded them together, which gives you a deeper feel of ambience, then we placed the theremin in center-left and center-right. And the stingers were able to be panned from right to left and back again. I played it for Steven Smith and asked him, 'What do you think Herrmann would have thought of it?' He said he thought Herrmann would be shocked but would approve."
