I bought the double c.d. soundtrack and love the Tiomkin score, but have never seen the film. The review I read at Blu-ray online gives it a very mediocre rating, both image and audio. Has anyone here seen the Blu-ray put out by Kino Lormer, and if you have, is it worth the price? Thanks.

DUEL IN THE SUN is an over-the-top western, that looks like it’s in Technicolor on steroids.
Strip away all the excess, and it’s about a would-be hoyden who meets her match in a pathological, oversexed cowpoke.
But, add all those Technicolor vistas, that keep saturating you in lush tones, as well as that massive Tiomkin score, and it ends up bordering on epic.
It’s only too bad the story in the foreground is so cliche-ridden.
But it’s a wild ride nonetheless, and certainly entertaining.

Hi John. Even your own thoughts on this film are fascinating and seem to indicate to me that there's a 'fun' experience waiting for me in discovering this film. I have seen a clip (somewhere), of Jennifer Jones begging Gregory Peck not to leave her (or something like that), and she's wrapped around his leg while he walks away, dragging her along. The clip was obviously out of context, but it tends to describe exactly what you've just described. I just didn't want to get the blu-ray because of that one bad review on the blu-ray site, but Bob's links gave further insight. And you're right about that 'massive Tiomkin score', I really enjoy it!

Yes, DITS ended up a massive undertaking.
Check out the process shots, like the thunderstorm brewing above the massing of the cowboys.
Or that relentless roulette wheel in the beginning.
Or the use of shadows against lurid red light.
It’s almost an Expressionist Western.
Originally a roadshow, I finally managed to cadge an (expensive) copy of the original souvenir program on E-bay.
