Yes, you read it correctly - Mrs TG and I are in a small hotel in Libpool for an overnighter, courtesy of a voucher from our older daughter. So far we’ve had a very snowy trip over the M62 followed by a subterranean trip into the Q-Park near Liverpool One, check in, then a walk to Albert Dock for the Beatles Experience (somewhat against my inclination but quite an interesting exhibition) and a quick mooch through the free parts of the local Tate Gallery. The highlight of the latter was a Roy Lichtenstein feature. It was great seeing the original “Whaam”, which I’ve always loved, along with lots of other examples of his work.

Then a nice meal at Malmaison (on Tastecard, pal, saved a packet) and cocktails to round it off.

Tomorrow we’re planning a trip to the newer cathedral and a walk along the waterfront. You have to walk past HMV to get to the car park, so that’ll be the last part of the trip before the drive back over the big hill. I’ve only been here on business before so it’s good to wander around at leisure. Interesting city, lots of different accents, several attempts at upselling at Malmaison and a brisk wind off the Irish Sea.

"There's A Small Hotel"

There’s a small hotel
With a wishing well;
I wish that we were there together.
There’s a bridal suite;
One room bright and neat,
Complete for us to share together.
Looking through the window
You can see a distant steeple;
Not a sign of people,
Who wants people?
When the steeple bell
Says "Good night, sleep well"
We’ll thank the small hotel.
We’ll creep in our little shell.
And we will thank the small hotel together.

HAVE FUN! HEEEEEEE! heeeeee! oh you little devils

Did want any unruly scallies - or me wink - seeking you out, eh.
Hope you had/are having a lovely time in my fair city.

I've never been there. In my ignorance, I kind of thought that it was a place nobody went to for a holiday. Do forgive me if I have offended thee.

You can't have read it all yet. There's SO MUCH to absorb and learn.
Be Enlightened, My Childe!

"But I had a vision of unearthly beauty, and that is why I was able to live at all. Liverpool is the “pool of life.” The “liver,” according to an old view, is the seat of life, that which makes to live.”

This dream brought with it a sense of finality. I saw that here the goal had been revealed. One could not go beyond the center. The center is the goal and everything is directed towards that center. Through this dream I understood that the self is a principle and archetype of orientation and meaning. Therein lies its healing function. For me, this insight signified an approach to the center and therefore to the goal. Out of it emerged a first inkling of my personal myth.

After this dream I gave up drawing or painting mandalas. The dream depicted the climax of the whole process of development"

Aye, Will. Jung saw the Centre Of The Universe. It Was Liverpool.

Yeah, sorry I didn’t try to organise anything but I’ve only known about it since early January smile

In reality we had a full schedule and while I’m never slow to try to meet other fsmers, I also quite enjoy being married...

We went on an open top bus tour, which we always find to be a good way to see a city. It took us around the catholic cathedral, the museums, the Royal Philharmonic Hall (where Vassily Petrenko recorded his brilliant Shostakovich cycle), and the street containing the Cavern Club.

Speaking of which, there’s a certain popular beat combo from Liverpool that are hardly mentioned anywhere you go in the city. Really, Kev, you should make a bit more of the connection.
