I think I'll skip the cherry picking. It reminds me of a movie I can't quite identify, where the 'cursed' guy ends up repeating, "Mary had a little lamb . . . " every time he tries to open his mouth and tell the truth.

I like the film but can't bring myself to watch it again because of all the puking scenes. Puke dripping off of lamp shades. Puke dripping off of Nicholson's chin. Puke..puke..puke.

It's not (of course) supposed to be real puke, which removes any unpleasantness for me - it's like the over the top scene in The Exorcist, but at the opposite point of the colour wheel.

I really enjoyed The Witches of Eastwick every time I saw it, but haven't watched it for ages. Also it was the first thing I remember seeing Richard Jenkins in, who I think is a great actor, currently gracing The Shape of Water. However, the best thing is the score, which is a wild boisterous ride which puts me in mind of a mad Paganini.

the puking sequence is the highlight, with the back and forth between the witches and the victim a perfect vehicle for miller's fluid pacing and camera.
i love veronica cartwright in the film. also michelle pfeiffer, showing subtle range with the least amount to work with of the three.

Now I'm glad I've never seen the film.

I have to be honest, I never cared for it myself. To me it always seemed like George Miller was trying to make a social satire about misogyny and women's rights, while the studio wanted it to be a sophomoric "popcorn movie", with thrills, crude humor and slick ILM effects. The female leads are great (especially Sarandon), but Nicholson just strolls through the film, playing himself.

For me, the film's one saving grace was John Williams, who managed to take what was interesting about the story -- the supernatural elements, the satirical tone, the quaint, coastal setting -- and spin them into one of his most unique efforts.

Loved it then, love it now! And infinitely quotable.

There's some powerhouse actors I just can't stand to watch anymore. Nicholson and Gibson come to mind, once I realized their douchery wasn't acting, but they personal persona.

Most ridiculous notion ever.

Nicholson is the greatest film actor who ever lived, and has an amazing versatility. The "persona" roles you speak of are really just a handful (I love them too). He displayed his range both in the 60s and as late as the 2000s, being able to play both sensitive and brusque personas with equal ease.
