I am kinda surprised there was no new thread or mention that I have seen for Quartet's 500 edition reissue of Cinema Paradiso (30th Anniversary) last month.

I have the DRG release that was just 17 tracks but it also included a bonus track - the string version of the main theme. The new release has all the songs in Italian. Anyone know if this track is included? Anything else on the old version that is not included in the new version? I know the new version is expanded but I just didn't want to lose any tracks.

To the best of my knowledge, the bonus track on the DRG reissue is exclusive to that edition. It doesn't appear on either the GDM or Quartet edition. I honestly think that it is just the orchestral track for the main title without the soloists, which would explain why it wasn't included on either expansion. Hopefully somebody knows anything more specific about it, and can comment.

I would recommend the Quartet edition unreservedly even though this track isn't included; it is of material well covered elsewhere on the CD.

The Quartet edition certainly sounds lovely. I can also thoroughly recommend. Such a beautiful score.

I haven't seen anywhere though about it being 500 copies.... Do we know for sure that it's a limited release? I don't have any Quartet releases that aren't, so I'm assuming so. But I can't find that information anywhere.

It'd definetly on the expanded GDM issue (which seems to be basically the same as the new Quartet issue outside of sound quality....I'll get the later eventually). It's combined with another cue, however, which is why it might be hard to tell that it's there is someone, say, was only listening to 30 second samples or going by track titles.

Yep, the "strings version" of the main theme is indeed on the Quartet CD as well as on the previous GDM releases. It's the same track as the second part of "Dopo il Crollo" (extended).
As far as I know, aside from some inedits heard in the film, only one piece is missing on these releases - an alternate version of "Maturita" which is only available on The Platinum collection 3CD.

Ah! That explains it, and I just confirmed it. So the Quartet disc does have the strings version of the main title, just as an expansion of the album track and not on its own. That means I can retire that GDM disc now.

Noted. On the list.

Thank you smile I just checked it myself as well and can also confirm this. Now my old DRG edition can finally make room.
