It's the original DRG I have. I've always been content with it, never thought of getting any subsequent release. I bought it when it was first released, and was my first Morricone score
I'm really glad to hear this, as this is one of the scores I've by the maestro I really like. Now I know where to go, many thanks!

I only know that he was not happy that it was out there. Maybe someone else might more detail.

That's awesome Sean. Mi famiglia is not that tuned into my film music. However, I will say that both kids recognize Dragonheart so that's progress.
It was me, not our Miss Joan who chimed in about 100 Rifles. She does like the Westerns more than I do though. I actually like 100 Rifles. I picked up the FSM release a few years back and found myself looking at other Western scores. Maybe we can get Miss Joan to take a listen too?

Over many many eons, everyone has come around to the right side - my mom hears Barry everywhere, so we always play "what movie wss it you were watching, was it really JB???" & my wife just guesses everything is Silvestri!
Progress is good, keep at 'em!
100 RIFLES is...well it's a "boy score" I think, hopefully that doesn't come over the wrong way, just meaning it's pretty harsh, unless you like those south of the border accents. I saw that exchange about Jerry westerns, meant to jump in, because it's one I tease my wife about that gets a lot of play, which she always guesses incorrectly at.
You two missed BANDOLERO! by the way lol.
Off topic, but since we solved purplerain's conundrum, its ok....and to tie it all up, let's all go play a fantastic (FSM released!!) Ennio western now - GUNS FOR SAN SEBASTIAN!! ;-)

Well, my lovely elderly mother-in-law LOVES the music Goodbye Mr. Chips so that's a wonderful thing. Good for your mom. My family always says "Is that John Williams?" with the exception of Star Wars, Schindler and AI.
Admittedly Sean, the only Morricone western I own is Once Upon A Time In the West. Don't tell Carson that. If you can suggest some others that are as stellar, please do. I'm all ears.

Edw its ok, he rarely dips in over here so you probably got away with it. 
You should probably go on itunes and listen to the ennio westerns and see which ones grab you.
Or get a compilation.
They are all so different.
If you like OUATITW then Guns for San Seb, as sean suggested, is a good shout. You should probably try my name is Nobody (espec Good luck jack) and every soundtrack collector should own GBU for its richness and variety.
We have had threads on this before but check out Henry's (Morricone) series where he details each film with clips.

I threw GUNS-SAN SEB. up front because it is the most symphonic, semi-Goldsmith oater, IMO, that is friendly to newbies. And no whistling (hopefully I'm remembering right!), since there was some aversion to that from someone?
I'd rec that as a great intro, that album has it all and flirts with the more outlandish methods EM employed to the west sitting along his soaring symphonic writing.
FSM also did THE FIVE MAN ARMY, which was an early find for me and is in the same zip code as GUNS, at least, but does have more outlandish vocal stuff that may be harder to get used to. Just my IMO, damn I love that album too!
Good thread, keep at it! Where's that Wagner-buffa at now?
