Enough with these spin offs. Stop it, end it, don't do that anymore. What's next, a series about the people who decorated the dojo, a series about the Ford workers who assembled Daniel's 48?

Think up something original and stop trying to make it look you were part of a past that never was your present.

I think you're going to be disappointed there is no Conti.

Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson are scoring it.

That would have been cool to have Conti back, but I'm still looking forward to the show.smile

I'm intrigued. This reminded me of the No More Kings music video, "Sweep the Leg", from several years back; it's hilarious!

In my local movie theater, I just saw the Fathom Events showing of the first two episodes of Cobra Kai, followed by the original Karate Kid. I of course loved the latter, especially since I’d never had the pleasure of seeing it on the big screen. And the former? Kind of to my surprise, I loved it! And this is coming from someone who, for the most part, hates reboots. But this one works, trust me. Macchio’s and Zabka’s portrayals of their characters’ aging and evolved personalities felt very much like home, and I found myself rooting for the bad guy this time. It’s a drama series at its core, but there are slight comedic moments. Can’t wait for the rest of the series on May 2nd. I highly recommend any original Karate Kid fans to check it out!

It starts in a few days, I have to figure out how to get Youtube Red. The show is getting good reviews.

I'd want to see reviews after it's out. Obviously Youtube is going to be selective of who gets to review a project they plunked down money for an expect a return, before it's out.

I was skeptical but I have to admit that the tone of the trailers is just perfect....I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes...

The first episode is up for free (the rest are for Youtube Red payers only):

I'll check it out tomorrow, but after seeing the trailer and the first two films, I don't have high hopes for it.

EDIT:
It's also showing episode two is free. Will see if that is still the case tomorrow. If viewing the pilot convinces me to see another episode!

I've just finished the entire series. What a blast! I have to admit I was kinda on the fence with the show.... that is until episode 5 onwards. Now don't get me wrong it's not like the show wasn't good at that point it's just it needed to start really progressing the main plot which it fortunately does from that point on.

The score is a bit of a mixed bag. One minute it's generic needle drop overly modern music, then it's tapping into the 80s Rock sound of countless songs of that era, then it's throwbacking to Conti's style and the more traditional orchestral sound. I think if this show is allowed to have multiple seasons I could see the composers they brought on board leaning more towards that sound and improving.

The best music in Cobra Kai though is when they literally use Conti's cues tracked in directly from his original score. I don't want to spoil too much but his music is used effectively and appears at key points, especially in the latter half of the show.

If you're in any way a fan of The Karate Kid, I would highly recommend this. Never did I think I would see what's essentially a direct sequel to the 1984 film (whilst also acknowledging the other two) and not only does it do a better job of selling you Johnny, but it adds so much characterisation and backstory to his character that it literally changes your perception of him in the original film, and for the better.

I'm now starting to side with this long standing fan theory actually:
