MARVEL---Marvel was emerging from bankruptcy in 1998. In order to raise desperately-needed cash, Marvel head Ike Perlmutter offered to sell the movie rights to all of its comic book characters (except X-Men and Fantastic Four which were owned by other studios) to Sony Pictures for only $25 million. Sony Pictures told its executive Yair Landau, who was handling the deal with Marvel, “Nobody gives a sh*t about any of the other Marvel characters. Go back and do a deal for only Spider-Man.” Sony then paid $10 million for the Spider-Man rights and gave up the opportunity to own Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Doctor Strange and the other Marvel superheroes.
After setting up its own studio, Marvel Studios has made almost $13 billion.
THE MANUSCRIPT---Morgan Freeman and Scott Eastwood star in this movie about a jailed convict who sends chapters of a mysterious novel to an aspiring writer and involves him in a plot to recover $100 million in stolen diamonds. Nick Cassevetes is the director.
KUNG FURY---Arnold Schwarzenegger will co-star with Michael Fassbender in this sci fi movie about a Miami martial arts cop who travels back in time to assassinate Adolf Hitler and save mankind. Schwarzenegger will reportedly play the President of the United States.
AFTERBURN---Gerard Butler stars in this movie based on the graphic novel set in the future after a solar flare has destroyed Europe, Asia and Africa. A treasure hunter leads a team against mutants and rogue armies to enter the ruins of Paris and recover the Mona Lisa. Jung Byung-gil is the director.
BORDERLAND---Jamie Dornan and Sam Claflin star in this movie about an IRA member who seeks revenge on the SAS captain who accidentally killed his wife while searching for him.
THE LIGHTHOUSE---Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson star in this horror movie.
RABID---Jen and Sylvia Suska will direct the remake of the 1977 David Cronenberg horror movie that starred Marilyn Chambers.
TRIVIA---cult classic BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA was one of five movies that Kurt Russell and John Carpenter worked on together. The others were ELVIS, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THE THING and ESCAPE FROM L.A..
Kim Cattrall, who played lawyer Gracie Law, also appeared in STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, POLICE ACADEMY, PORKY'S and SEX IN THE CITY.
Veteran character actor James Hong, who played villain Lo Pan, also appeared in BLADE RUNNER, CHINATOWN and AIRPLANE!
Hong was turned down for the role of Sulu in the original STAR TREK tv series.
Suzee Pai, who played Miao Yin, was the Penthouse Pet of the Month in January, 1981. She also appeared in SHARKY'S MACHINE which starred Burt Reynolds and Rachel Ward.

I couldn't get through the half hour version of Kung Fury. It got tiresome very quickly. Fassbender is great but in too much rubbish. (What I think is rubbish anyway).

I did BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA because today is the Chinese New Year.
As usual, I skipped my sleep to get the movie/tv news out this morning even though I was supposed to be somewhere in the afternoon, but I skipped it to get the movie/tv news out.
Now, I will skip part of my sleep again to get done tomorrow what I should have done today.
I started the trivia because, as I have stated numerous times before, I am bored silly of posting the same news every morning---Marvel superheroes, DC superheroes, zombie apocalypses and now a never-ending flood of Star Wars, in addition to remakes, reboots, sequels, prequels, etc. The trivia takes a very long time because it's hard to find photos, and I am now losing even more sleep than before.

I said it before and I'll say it again...I really like and appreciate the trivia that you post sir in addition to the new. What's interesting that many of the replies are seemingly negative simply because they find much of the films coming out of Hollywood are rubbish...and yet those that do bitch/moan/complain will still find a way going to see it regardless and then post again about how much rubbish it is. The proverbial dog chasing its own tale as it where, a never ending cycle.
If you enjoy it Dragon, keep it up. Negative or positive you have a crowd that will read it no matter what. For some, it's akin to reading about a train wreck that happened overnight, to others like me, I simply enjoy being kept abreast at single page glance of what's potentially coming down our way in the future from Hollywood, train wreck or not.  I ready every single post you put out here. Hats off and a hearty thanks.
