The first you've heard of his death or the cause of death?

Does it really matter?

What's most uplifting is that we've had a couple of scores by Johann since that tragic day - JJ was a busy guy nice person, I'm still shocked being honest.

I dearly hope that one day we might have opportunity to hear his aborted BR2049 score. His leaving the project is such a tantalising mystery. It's not that I think it could be better than the official score, I'm just so curious at how he approached the film, how he 'saw' it musically. The film would have had a different soul I am sure.

Its strange because there was a BR site at one time stating Johann composed quite a bit - as I remember it was the synth debate saying JJ wasn't good enough - atotal nonsense I thought at the time more undermining.

I, too, would love to hear what he composed for BR2049, if, for nothing else, to see how it stacks up against Zimmer's hastily put together (albeit, highly enjoyable) score. But I don't think we should hold our breath. We don't see many rejected scores released. Still waiting for Howard Shore's King Kong. But sometimes surprises come along, such as Shire's rejected score for Apocalypse Now.

Just watched 'Mary Magdalene' and 'Mandy'. What contrast. In the former, Johannsson reached a zenith in exalted, 'spiritual' writing. It's a 'biblical' score on par with many greats in the genre. Whereas in the completely zonked-out 'Mandy', he plumbs the depths of dark material with a vengeance. In his final outings, the sadly departed maestro has given us a full range of emotion from the pit of hell to the heights of heaven.
