Hokay, I see the double disc on Amazon, checked out the one with the Italian title.

I am growing increasingly fond of this score. Which release should be the "ONE"?

Many thanks to FSM, you folks are always such a terrific help and awesome people to boot! smile smile smile

Just jump on this already established thread on the 2-CD re-recording and go from there:

There's this two disc, tempting for the booklet:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M9D4P0M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1#customerReviews

This one also seems to have some merit:

https://www.amazon.com/Buono-Brutto-Cattivo-Ennio-Morricone/dp/B00005EF9Y/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8

This way we don't have to deal with a thread with dead links that don't tell me much.

There's also some fighting on that thread....seems especially unhelpful.

I've got the expanded OST (on now defunct EMI). I'm under the impression that the 2CD is an emulated mock up of the score?

Get the most comprehensive version of the original, would be my advice. The recreation is a brilliant effort and worth having for interest and the booklet, but the original will never be improved upon.

AFAIK, the 2001 GDM release is also quite good; it contains even a few minutes more than the 2004 expanded EMI release does, albeit some of it in mono. In any case, the GDM and the EMI are the actual original soundtrack recordings. (I don't think the OST recording is always the "best" recording, but in case of TGTBTU, it's certainly a landmark recording that's hard to beat.)

I'd recommend the GDM version as it's the most complete release of the original recording.

I have the original LP, plus the 21-track expanded version on EMI, with the original cover art. It is not complete, but it is pretty substantial. And the price is right.

The GDM is the best version to get… it is mostly the same as the EMI expanded edition that came out — both alternate between stereo and mono — except for the version of “Story of a Soldier,” and because “The Trio” is two key minutes longer, having the film version of the last part of that track (which is, in my opinion, indispensable).

The re-creation is a lot of fun, but I would make sure that you have the original first…

Thanks! Soooo...I'll just put the rerecording on hold and get the GDM Prime delivered wink

I have the expanded Capitol release. Mind you, GBU is an audiophile's nightmare in general so I find it perfectly acceptable.

Never knew about this difference myself think this is the only score that I don't own the GDM version (own EMU Capital)
Timings seem close to me according to:

This might be handy if you don't already know about it:

That's the one in the mail! Receiving Thursday from Prime.

After having sampled so much of this score I'm really inspired and impressed.

In my queue, super thanks! Sometimes all I need for incentive is the good word of folks like you. I've checked that score out on Amazon...another WOW, indeed.
