Good idea but I way too much music. They be better if celebrating a few old scores, and all the exceptional scores from this year and not just the nominees.

Truly bizarre choices. It’s like they reached into a bag and pulled out the worst examples. That complaint aside, I would go to there.

Managed to get into this sold out concert thanks to Clafong! Totally stoked that they did not go for the cliché top 20 scores that have been the staple of film music tributes since I was a kid. Hearing film music that should be heard but isn't is my ideal concert.

THE OSCAR CONCERT

But what happened to The Oscar Concert after 2014? The one that was to feature the Oscar nominated scores and songs for each year after 2014?

It was considered cost prohibitive until they formed an association with the LA Philharmonic this year.

Besides the historical pieces the 5 nominated score suites return with the composers giving background to them. My favorite part of the last one.

I'd go too... But the sound of love or fear without an entry by Herrmann? Wut.

Looks like tonight three nominee's directors will intro each composer, before their intro to their work. Del Toro to Desplat, Johnson to Williams, Anderson to Greenwood.

What a night! I attended with Nancy, Marshall Harvey (thanks for making it happen!), Edwin Wendler and Peter Hackman. Williams, Desplat and Burwell conducted with Zimmer performing. Thomas Wilkins did a great job conducting all the other music and Scott Draper did all those great montages. I sat there and realized I was happy NOT hearing the same film music examples for the umpteenth time (Psycho, Jaws, etc.) There is too much great stuff not heard very often, if at all, that needs to be heard. Saying hello to Alexandre Desplat, Richard Kraft and José of Quartet Records and a ton of musical friends this night wasn't too shabby either.

Agree with Morricone, one heck of a solid concert. A couple pieces they played were not my most favorite of film scores, but there is something seeing/hearing this stuff live that made me go, "hey that's a great piece." Maybe it's just the surroundings. Hearing The Great Train Robbery live was a thrill of a lifetime. I sure hope they continue this!

That pic probably contains the three alltime greatest film composers from Europe, the US and Asia, respectively. Especially in terms of popularity (true, Zimmer is more American now than European, but still).

Yeah, 'greatest' is my personal evaluation. I rank Zimmer above Morricone. Or Barry, Legrand or any Golden Age composer that emigrated from Europe.

Thor, are you talking here in terms of popularity or output when you say "greatest"?

As I've said on Facebook, I would argue that they are - objectively - the three most popular. 'Greatest', however, is a more subjective evaluation.
