I hope it's okay that I create a new thread for Angel. Thought it might be nice to have one for just Angel.
(if not just delete this razz )

I am currently rewatching this show and man, the first season really has some great score moments!
(probably because Beck was involved in this season razz )
Such a shame that the only cue we got from Beck was the very short version of Angel's heroic theme (I'm Game).
Fingers crossed that we'll see a box set some time in the future!

I watched War Zone today and realized they actually used that Massacre cue from Buffy in the Angel/Gunn fight.
Had totally forgot about that!

What would be on your wish list if there ever was another release from this amazing show?

Its not what I want, but what I don't want.

No f***ing karaoke tracks this time! Its fine in the show but, ugh, terrible on the soundtrack!

Angel was my favorite of the two series, and I was always big on the scores of the show from primarily the first two seasons.

The pilot score with that heroic Angel theme was great, but also what Beck and Rob Kral did was use this two-note (a kind of precursor to what Zimmer would do with Batman) theme that was meant only for establishing shots of Los Angeles and either Angel's building or the hotel. It wasn't used much beyond those jumpcut establishing shots but when I think of the tone of the show, and how different it was to Buffy, separating it from that and giving it a more cinematic feel, those shots of the city and their music - just a simple two note thing, was enough to create that.

I'd say my favorite score from season 1 would be 'Blind Date'. The cues for when Angel and Lindsey are making their way into Wolfram and Hart, and especially the final scenes where Holland gives Lindsey his office, while Angel looks out on his city.

I did really enjoy the "Live Fast, Die Never" CD, though I was glad to have imported it from the UK instead of the domestic release with that crappy little feather on the cover.

I actually JUST finished Blind Date!!
And yes! That cue at the very last scene with Holland/Lindsey/Angel is amazing.
It's sort of very evil like, but beautiful at the same time!

I didn't know there were two different versions of the OST!
I've only seen the black one with the feather (very boring...).
Is the UK cover a blue cover? Cause I have a blue cover in my iTunes, but I've always just thought it was a very good fanmade cover, lol!

I must be honest (not that I ever really studied the boring cover) but I always thought the feather was a knife!
But now when you mentioned it, it's totally a feather!! lol!

You both know I would of course buy a 4 disc Angel set, if LLL felt like doing a follow-up to their Buffy one. Some excellent music in this series too, as well as a few callbacks to Buffy.

Oh yes! My number 1 wish from this show for a possible future release is (no surprise) the last cue from I Will Remember You (I might have mentioned it once or twice, razz )
I have probably watched that scene AT LEAST 300 times only to listen to that Buffy/Angel version. It's just so very tragic! It's my favorite out of all the different variations Beck made and I still can't believe it wasn't on the OST!
I guess, they mostly wanted to focus on Kral music.

And of course a longer version of the heroic Angel theme would be a must!
Preferably one emotional version and one epic/heroic version. Such a beautiful melody.

The UK cover is just all black with a faded version of the "ANGEL" title logo.

Ah right! Just found it on discogs. Looks much better!

The one I was talking about and still use is this one. Guess it was a fan made then smile

I remember when the tracklist first was announced there was also a Faith cue in there. Can't remember the name exactly but it was something like "Faith's Remorse" or something. Probably from that scene where she breaks down.
But it was suddenly gone when it was released. frown

The background of that fan cover must have been taken from the original season 2 DVD set.

I actually think it's taken from the Complete Series Box.
But they again, might have taken that from the season 2 dvd smile

That season 2 set was the best looking of both shows' DVD box sets from an aesthetic sense. Never did like those oversized digipaks but at least that one was great with the steely grays and clouds.

I have all the UK versions. The first ones. The "book" types. Are those the digipacks?
I love those. They look pretty big grin

I have nothing to say.

Except for that.

And that, too.

lol, acathla, I just rewatched season one too, even though I actually don't have time for that.

I remember how excited I was to get the Angel soundtrack back in the day when the series wrapped. It was kind of like a bittersweet farewell present. Even though I was also sad about other cancellations like Enlightened or Wonderfalls, the cancellation of Angel really broke my heart at the time in ways my heart wasn't broken again after.

I thought the tracklist for the soundtrack was also fairly well done, putting Touched, the Lindsey song and No Place Like Home on there as a gift to the fans, even though it was primarily a score soundtrack.

In terms of score, I was a bit disappointed that they spent so much space on the CD with Pylea stuff when there was so much more memorable stuff, but overall it's a wonderful CD with a good mix of music from all seasons (except maybe season five).

The karaoke tracks of course, you can either take them or leave them. I wasn't a big fan of Andy Hallet's voice, though I have come to appreciate both Andy Hallet and the character of Lorne over time in rewatches. While still not my favorite tracks, I do appreciate that they put something by Andy on the soundtrack. May he rest in peace.

I really do hope that the Buffy soundtrack will sell extraordinarily well so that LLL considers an Angel set too. I feel like the excitement for the Buffy set was definitely there, but we'll see whether that translates to sales numbers. And hopefully MV and the LLL team have not been put off by our anticipation and all the questions regarding the Buffy set (and I don't mean solely acathla, I have seen several questions about the set on their FB page).

As for score, I already mentioned in the other thread what I would like to have included on a hypothetical Angel set, but here we go again:

- The cue that is playing over the montage when Kate is doing her research on Angel in Somnambulist in season one. As well as maybe an alternative version of the Hero cue that was already on the 2005/2006 soundtrack.

- The score from the Waiting in the Wings episode in season three. I know they included music from the actual ballet that they had in the episode, but I mean the really captivating cues by Rob Kral from that episode.

- The cue from the Ground State episode in season four: after the final fight scene there is a shot of the city to the Hyperion Hotel when Angel uses this weird artefact to find Cordelia and the music in that scene is really nice. But I also liked the eerie Gwen cue at the beginning in the flashback.

- The cue in Spin the Bottle in Angel season four, when amnesiac Cordelia asks Angel whether they were in love.

- Generally a lot of the epic/creepy music from season four, there was for example a very creepy Cordelia cue in Inside Out when possessed Cordy and Connor slaughter the innocent teenager.

- Wesley/Lilah cues if there are any.

- Music from A Hole in the World and Shells.

- Any music cues that played when Illyria was on screen.

- Music cues from the final two episodes, some of it are variations of stuff that is already on the first soundtrack, but still...

- and as bonus:
--> the Cordelia theme song from the Birthday episode in season 3.
--> the song that the client sings in the Hyperion Hotel Garden at the beginning of the Sleep Tight episode in season three.

That music during the slow motion walk is tracked from season 2's "Reunion". It's for when Lindsey and Drusilla are watching over Darla laying dead in the plant nursery.

Great list! I want them all! big grin

I also mentioned this in the other thread, but in Just Rewards (season 5, episode 2) there is a cue by Douglas Romayne Stevens in the flash back scene to Sunnydale and Spike's sacrifice. It's amazing and the cue appears again in an Angel scene (same episode) but a much more emotional version. Would love to have that version of it!

Here's the Hellmouth cue:

Btw, is there a list somewhere on which episodes the different cues from the OST is from?
I obviously know some of them, but it's been so long since I watched this show and I dont even remember most of the episodes as I rewatch them now! It's like I'm watching it for the first time again. Almost. lol!
