That said, I think I could say as an adult that I prefer it objectively. Revenge has a killer opening and a few nice eerie moments, but Jaws 3 is much more full-throated score with bigger themes and more prominent action.    Posted:   Jan 31, 2018 - 11:03 AM     By:   Reeve   (Member) I love the atmosphere that the score for "JAWS 3" evokes. Take that End Title piece for example (some people will call it "cheesy" - BAH! HUMBUG!) For me, that is a real winner! Also, the Shark theme gets a better workout in the third entry - in my opinion. It feels more threatening to me... Michael Small's score - I do love dearly... but to answer your question, it isn't too hard to choose! It almost feels like a 70's JW disaster movie score (which pretty much works with the tone of the film), and as mentioned earlier the shark motif gets plenty of variation and is really nicely integrated into the score. It's a serious, aggressive "Jaws" score that very much stands on its own. I agree that 3-D sounds something like a Williams 70s disaster score...but more Towering Inferno than Poseidon Adventure, sadly...I'm not a big fan of the former as it comes off as dated and lacking depth (I like Jaws 3-D much better, actually). In fact it was a line shouted by Louis Gosset Jr. (at least “it’s gonna hit us!” that remained in some tv spots and in the Making Of) but the scene and the film had several cuts and changes by the producer after director Joe Alves loguer original cut. On the scores; Jaws The Revenge was a holly grail for me ever since watching the film. It has some of the best variations of the shark theme and other very touching music. The issue is that, like Robocp 3, the scenes are short and there are lots of very short tracks. I wish Michael Small had better and longer setpieces to develop the music more. Jaws 3-D is a “bigger” score, with long setpieces and more varied, full of themes. I love it too and probably listen to it more than Revenge. All 4 scores are pretty great, despite the various differences. I like 3 for the Theme Park material at the beginning. It should not work, but it does. Williams wrote two very different (and effective) scores for I & II, removing the curse of simply rehashing themes and such. A big thanks to Intrada for having released them. To anyone on the fence on Jaws 3-D I recommend to grab it before is too late. Even in this age of rereleases god knows if and when they will be rereleased in the future. If that happens, by Intrada or other label, I might even get then again if some things are modified (a matter of personal preference not any major Issue with the products released): On Jaws 3-d: I’d prefer if disc 1 contained a chronological program with the film versions (and some very short unused tracks included in the bonus section). I’d also prefer if the crossfades of unrelated tracks were undone. And to separate the source tracks from the dramatic score (the source music is very good, but IMO some tracks are too long without actual dramatic progression, which breaks a bit the flow of the score). Disc 2 could include the program with the original/alternate versions of the tracks (currently some film versions are in disc 2 and alternates in 1) and alternate versions of the source music. Sound quality is very good taking into account that it is mentioned that the tapes were deteriorating. But, If possible, some digital repairing of slightly damaged tracks (such as Kay Rides the Whale) would be appreciated. On Jaws The Revenge: The album uses the stereo film mixes which have some (minor) hiss. I’d love if it could be recreated from the original multitrack, including some bonus tracks omitting the electronic roar that I find a bit distracting in this score (such as the Main Title and Attack on Sean). I’d also prefer to separate the source cue from the main program. Finally the B cover in better quality would be appreciated (in the Intrada site a corrected version is posted in the product paga, I don’t know if latter pressings had the corrected version). In any case these scores are great and the Intrada releases already fantastic.
