Any thoughts on the newly released score to Nick Park's new film EARLY MAN?

Any thoughts on the newly released score to Nick Park's new film EARLY MAN?

Listening to it now, very much in the mold of what Julian Nott would have written. Quite enjoyable, better than Silvestri's effort for The Croods. Nice to hear a HGW score that is free of electronics.

After countless listens since I discovered it, I can say I really, really enjoy this one. The themes are pretty good, and the score is constantly engaging. Hopefully, it will get a physical release, I'd buy it instantly.

I enjoy it. I'm curious about how Gregson-Williams and Howe collaborated.

As for the music . . . the main theme is inspired by either Rudy or "The Last Rose of Summer," which was the inspiration for Rudy, so it's both gorgeous and familiar. There is some rowdy action and some lovely statements of the theme, some really good stuff, but the abundance of short cues does break up the flow some. I'd probably pick some highlights for a playlist to listen to rather than listen to the full score many times.

I gave up around half a dozen cues in. Can't recall the theme and this is certainly not better than the score to "The Croods".

The film looks bad. And a blatant rip-off of the Wallace & Gromit character designs.

I also pick up a RUDY vibe. Didn't realize/expect that this is really a comedic-sports score. I think it is quite good.

An odd complaint, given that it's from Aardman Animations. This is the style they're known for. This is what they do.

It's not odd 'cause I didn't look into who made it.

For future reference, no one else does character designs like that. You spot that, you know it's Aardman. big grin
