Kino Lorber have announced that they will release on Blu-ray director Sergio Leone's classic western Duck, You Sucker a.k.a. A Fistful of Dynamite (1971), starring Rod Steiger, James Coburn, Romolo Valli, Maria Monti, and Rik Battaglia. The release will be available for purchase on March 6.

Synopsis: From Sergio Leone, the acclaimed director of A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West comes his final western--a relentlessly entertaining film that teams an Irish explosives specialist with a Mexican peasant-turned-revolutionary leader with thunderously explosive results.

Starring acting giants Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night) as Juan Miranda, a cigar-chomping, salt-of-the-earth peasant with a Robin Hood heart and James Coburn (Harry in Your Pocket) as John Mallory, a dynamite-tossing Irish revolutionary who has fled to Mexico to practice his skills. Together, they're a devilishly volatile mix of anti-establishment philosophies and violent tendencies as they attempt to liberate political prisoners, defend their compatriots against a well-equipped militia, and risk their lives on a train filled with explosives. Featuring a haunting and rousing score by iconic composer Ennio Morricone (Death Rides a Horse, Navajo Joe).

So do we know if this is the extended cut that was on the laserdisc? I don't see any deleted scenes listed, and it isn't clear what version is being released...

It is not a Western.

It bloody well is, end of argument (it's Bad Day At Black Rock that isn't)

It's my favourite Italian western & Morricone western score. It's the same old transfer that MGM used for their Blu-ray release, but Kino have given it a much needed clean-up: "The transfer is the same 157 minute cut with alternate title reinserted. We did do some additional 15 hours of dirt removal, so the overall master should look better than the previous Blu-ray release." I'd love this to be given the Spartacus/One-Eyed Jacks treatment, new 4K scan proper colour grade, total clean-up, but this is the world we're living in. I thought the MGM looked quite pleasing, apart from the endless dirt & flecks, & hopefully that's all gone.

I think Bruce was being ironic. You may have missed a certain poster holding forth that European Westerns aren't westerns at all. God, that was funny!

I hope they removed dirt for as long as it took, and didn't just set 15 hours aside and do as much as they could! I haven't got the MGM bluray (just double-checked my inventory under A, D, F and G, to be sure) and will grab this as soon as. It isn't my favourite, but it's right bang up there.

Again, guilty of skimming threads, I have form there.

In that particular case, you probably did the right thing.

It's not an Italian restoration, so the yellow is normal.

There is a newer Italian HD scan, they didn't drown it in yellow, but they didn't cover themselves in glory either, whoever graded it likes to blow-out the whites.

Your middle name is “Ironic”. Which incidentally gives you the initials of a leading brand of ball point pen.

... I haven't got the MGM bluray (just double-checked my inventory under A, D, F and G, to be sure) and will grab this as soon as. ...

Perhaps it's filed with all the Morricone scored films which don't have English titles (this was the problem I had with my CD collection ... and now have with the titles appearing on the streaming control point ... )

But your comment certainly made me smile smile

Of course, you could try T - my first CD purchase of the film's score was on the Alhambra label: Todesmelodie
