Reality check time: Police officers do not have free reign to fire as they please. At least here in America.

Free reign, in that sense, was not how I intended the phrase--what I meant was that the officer then has that legally justifiable option.
Sorry about that.

It's "free rein", not free reign.

Holy crap, you're right!

I hereby consider myself condemned.

Every time the weapon is discharged, an investigation is done. Anytime it involves somebody getting hit, intentionally or not intentionally, Internal Affairs investigates. You don't get to fire and then that's it -- people [at you on the back and say "Better luck next time".

Don't point to me rare isolated examples of elitist cops abusing their power and firing on people. the overwhelming majority don't do that. Many officers go without ever discharging their firearm.

Try speaking to some police officers some time. Ask them if they ever want to get into a situation where they have to fire (aside from some kind of terroristic attack). Most want to simply live another day and go home.

You mean the internal investigations by the systemically corrupt agency that finds the act of force or shootings justifiable 99.9% of the time? Get back to me when we have civilian board over sight.

And yes I have spoken to police officers. The ones that act like a-holes when they stop me for having a burnt out tail light, or stop me for going the speed limit in the fast lane. And I've known cops and they're flat out sociopaths that get off on the rush of "cheating death", (regardless if the threat was real or not) and the power trip of wearing the badge.

Sadly, that seems to be true, more often than not.
Once in a very rare blue moon I will have some interaction with an officer that takes pride in what they do in the best spirit of the service, but the other 8 or 9 out of 10... hoo boy.
