I wonder if anything is in the works this year for this huge milestone of the classic 1968 to 1980 CBS series. Perhaps, a complete Blu Ray set or some music?

Anyway, it would be nice to see some things released in celebration of the show:-)

Well they could start with a boxed set of all the original scores!

An uncut relase of the "banned" S2 episode, "Bored, She Hung Herself" would be nice, too.

Hey Jim,

Great suggestions! I wonder what the status is on the Stevens family lawsuit? I’m sure as soon as that is out of the way, we might finally see that boxed set of excellent original scores:-)

While the official anniversary isn't until September, I think I'll get started on a Five-0 season 1 rewatch. The series' pilot film, "Cocoon", is a great introduction to the "international intrigue" aspect of the show that makes it stand out from most other cop shows. There's some eerie imagery in Cocoon, such as the sensory deprivation tank.

Absolutely! COCOON is indeed a fantastic intro to the series along with a great, Emmy nominated score by Mort. I especially love the music he wrote for when Mcgarrett was undercover and sneaking around and discovering the actual tank. This piece of music was also used in a couple fourth season episodes of THE WILD WILD WEST.

Truly wonderful stuff!:-)

The opening montage with it's ultra fast cuts and camera zoom ins were ahead of it's time and oddly not duplicated until the 90's. (Well the only other example I can think of is, Space 1999) I thought it was a really cool filmatic style at the time, but can't stand it in modern shows and films.

The Streets of San Francisco had an opening montage that was a ripoff of Five-0.

Yeah, I guess so! I don't recall ever watching SOSF. The opening theme song is pretty funky!

...Or how about some selected episodes with isolated scores?

Now there is a great idea. Isolated scores! Hell, yeah!:-)

I totally agree. LaLaLand has released great box sets of Lost in Space, Mission: Impossible, The Wild Wild West, Wonder Woman, and Star Trek TOS. 2018 is definitely the right year to make a comprehensive release of H50 scores. Please and thank you. Mahalo!

Finally bought S10 (for a mere $11.99) and was impressed with the Bruce Broughton score for "You Don't See Many Pirates These Days."

The fast cut opening montage of "Mission: Impossible" preceded "Hawaii Five-0" by two years. And it was different each week.

The "Hawaii Five-0" title was created by Reza S. Badiyi, who also did the first year title for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

The decades channel just did a Hawaii Five-O binge. I cherry-picked a few episodes to view:

Decades Channel was doing a Hawaii Five-O binge, watched the classic, "The Hookman" episode. A double-amputee (played by real-life double-amputee, Jay J. Armes. Yeah, that was his real name) wants revenge against the cops who caused him to lose his hands, including McGarrett. Later remade for the Hawaii Five-O reboot, with Peter Weller as The Hookman. Very good episode.

Another season 6 Hawaii Five-O episode during the recent binge, One Big Happy Family. A strange, rural family arrives on the island and begins committing violent murders for petty amounts of cash. When things get too hot for them they move on to another town. As McGarrett closes in, he and his team begins to put together a horrific picture that the depraved family has killed and robbed more than 150 people, leaving a trail of dead bodies in their wake.

After finally arresting them, he asks them why they murdered all their victims, and the family matriarch responds, "they wasn't kin. They was all strangers. It don't count with strangers." When asked about the money they stole, she says, "Never stole a cent. They was dead. What do they want with money when they was dead? It ain't stealin' when they was dead first."

The look of astonished horror on McGarrett's face really sells the moment. The chilling exchange at the end of the episode is creepy and memorable. Really effective Morton Stevens score.

Very good episode. Guest-stars are Slim Pickens, Bo Hopkins, Robin Millan, and Barbara Baxley.

Yeah, these are two great episodes from one of my favorite seasons of the original series.
The music by Mort Stevens could not have been composed any better.

It should be interesting to see what kind of goodies come out for the 50th Anniversary!:-)
