I always look forward to these!

We are going to see Billboards and Shape of Water carry a lot of nominations, and probably win a lot of awards.
I am suspecting that Dunkirk is going to fall short of expectations and be left with a couple technical awards.

I'm expecting the music noms to be pretty similar to the Golden Globes noms. For better or worse. Incidentally, I thought THE SHAPE OF WATER was the worst score of them all in that category. Talk about boring!

At least it is not the "trash can suite" of Dunkirk

DUNKIRK was a million times more interesting. But we've been down this road before.

I doubt that WIND RIVER will get any nominations. Too bad because it was a great movie with superb acting by Jeremy Renner.

I have not seen Darkest Hour, but Oldman's performance has had rave reviews. He won a Golden Globe.

The one performance that I've seen this year that I think has been the best is Sam Rockwell in THREE BILLBOARDS. Glad he won the Golden Globe, and I hope he is nominated and will win an Oscar for best male supporting actor.

We agree as usual, Wind River is a stunner, it deserves some nominations, but since it was early in the year it was forgotten.
Yes Billboards is loaded with good performances, and it is, overall, the best film of the year. McDormand and Rockwell are great in this film.

9 Best Picture nominees this year and no genre pictures like WONDER WOMAN or BLADE RUNNER? Do we count GET OUT? I don't have any movie to really root for this year, so I can just relax and watch the show.smileI would like to see Williams win for score, but that won't happen.frown

I found it interesting that Wonder Woman didn't get a single nom. BR2049 at least got some technical noms.

Lesley Manville (primarily known for her TV work going back to the 1970s) must be dancing in the aisles to get a supporting nomination.

So, does 2049 get the 'through-the-lens' award? Although not necessarily a prerequisite, I tend to put this category in with Best Picture. It's like, you can't have one without the other. So, how does this situation work?

Not even a best director, or story nod for 2049, when even Ford described the movie as a "cathedral" like edifice? They are all technical (a formality). What a wasteful, insulting kick in the teeth.

My money is on Gary Oldman as Churchill and mcDormand in billboards.

Apparently meryl streep has been nominated 21 times!!!!!

Who cares. The Academy Awards has always had a political thing behind it, but now that Affirmative Action has been added on top of that. Just more politics dumped on politics...skip it.
