The 20 Anniversary is looking real good. I've never owned this score (but like it a lot), so which one would you kind FSM folks recommend? Any input will be hugely appreciated and HAPPY 2018!

- The audio quality is magnificent, and it has everything you can imagine as part of the 3-disc collection. No need to look further... WRONG! *bonk* You technically need 'two' releases in order to have 'everything you can imagine' from the TMP score. Let me explain. - STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE: LIMITED EDITION by La-La Land For 99% of everything TMP, this La-La Land's 3-Disc set is a must own. You've got the complete score, original album presentation and enough bonus tracks covering all kinds of material never before covered on the third disc. It really is that amazing... with the exception of that 1% which brings us to... - Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collection by La-La Land You'd think that a 3-Disc set of TMP would have given us everything, right? Well, strange things happen when it comes to releasing movie soundtracks. Due to Jerry Goldsmith's utter hatred of how the editors cranked up the sound of the wind machine in the track 'Inner Workings', La-La Land records thought it would be best to honor that hatred by toning it down so much it might as well not even be there. This irked some fans because the 'inner workings' track itself is on the set three whole times. So when it came time to release the 50th Anniversary set, La-La Land chose to include two tracks from the movies that many fans felt needed to be presented in their non-studio/composer endorsed way. One was the film version of Star Trek 2's ending without Nimoy's voice over (YYYEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and the 'Inner Workings' track with the wind machine sound now fully audible. So if you want that final 1% of material, this set is must. Plus you get the animated series score, some re-mastered tunes from the original series and a lot of other memorable tracks.

LLL, no contest, unless your a lunatic who obsessed over Inner Workings (Sorry jeyl!!). We all complained way back when Against the Sony version of that cue, cutting off early, so.... Also, Sony comes with a lame audio documentary.... I guess I should read closer....Sony, not LLL 50th, doh....

What everyone else has said ... the LLL is furthermore perhaps the most gorgeous soundtrack release in my entire collection (though Jim Titus's incredible gorgeous work for Tribute Film Classics probably matches his work on this). Yavar

The La-La Land edition has made the 20th anniversary edition obsolete. The sound is much, much better, and the additional material is outstanding. It may seem like a lot all at once, but it's so worth it.

I did hear that the earlier Sony expansion still has some alternate takes not included on the LLL (which has all the correct takes used in the film) The takes in the earlier expansion might be labeled incorrect ones, but they were the ones Goldsmith himself selected...I've held on to my earlier expansion just because of that, the interview disc, and the pretty foil slipcover...but I admit I never listen to it any more after discovering the sonic wonders of the LLL...one of their best releases, and best Goldsmith releases period, of all time. Yavar I thought the alternates on disc 3 (2?) are the same as the ones on the 20th. Was I misinformed? But yeah, LLL all the way.
