For the last 25 years or so, if I played video games, I played them on my PC and did not own any game consoles, but I bought a Nintendo Switch last April just to play Zelda and Mario (Odyssey). It is worth every penny and I basically bought the console indeed just for these two games. Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey are two of the best single player video games I have ever played in my life. As far as Mario Odyssey is concerned: I've collected 500 moons so far and it's like eating potato chips... it's hard to stop at one (once you start playing). Some other great games: Mario Kart and ARMS (if you do offline multiplayer games these are great).
I've had my Switch since July and love it! Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey are some of my favorite games of all time (Mario Odyssey being my favorite -- collecting power moons is addicting).
I highly recommend Golf Story. It's an indie Switch exclusive that combines golf with RPG elements. It doesn't sound fun, but it is. It has great game mechanics, art style, and a lot of heart. It has a story and you play a round of golf at the end of each level like a boss battle. One of the few games that uses the HD rumble feature of the joy-cons. When the golf ball is hit into the cup you can feel it swirl around and finish with a thunk.
Splatoon 2 is also a great game. The first one on the Wii U was one of my favorite games from the last console generation. It's extremely addicting. You wouldn't think a shooter from Nintendo would work, but it does.
Just picked up Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. It looks really fun, but I haven't played it yet.
It will be interesting to see what Nintendo announces this year for their online services. I hope to see cloud saves.

Yes... keeps me from doing more important things but what the heck, it is fun.
