These sales are always a good reminder of some scores I never got around to ordering. Guess it's time to finally add Outland to my collection.

Okay folks, so which do you prefer? The FSM Julius Caesar or the Intrada? I always found the Intrada a little flat sounding, and would be very appreciative of any help.

I don't have and never heard the Intrada. It was McCrum made me get the FSM - Caesar, beware the ideas of McCrum! Ah, but Sir McCrum is an undoubted wise man! Do you like what you have? Looks like a NICE set!

The mono aspect doesn't bother me, if that's what you mean. Lukas treated it very studiously, as you might expect. The main theme is unlike anything from the religious epics. It is a statement about the most indefatigable Roman general there probably ever was. So, just like the Goldsmith Patton theme evokes character, the Rozsa Caesar theme is a bold equivalent, though starkly robed with a military formalism, done the Rozsa way. I wouldn't like to push you. I'l leave that to the expert in the field. The deciding factor for me was I didn't want to lose out on this particular Rozsa vintage. There are several other deserving Rozsa titles from FSM, but for me, they were eclipsed by JC. You know, I'm listening to the Intrada and appreciating it more. I believe I'll stick with what I have, but thanks! Rozsa's Diane is tempting though...

Ha, it looks like I bought The Wild Bunch a month too early, I don't care, it's such a great release. I'm thinking about Land Of The Pharaohs. I'm a fan of Tiomkin, but that's the first score of his that turned me off. What sounded so tight and imaginative from an orchestration perspective on the Alamo and Fall of the Roman Empire falls apart on Land of the Pharaohs, much of it just plain sounds like a mess, and the some of the vocals...I personally would not recommend that CD. I just got rid of it, personally. The other two scores are so much better as to be by a whole different composer. No offense to fans of the score, and the packaging is admittedly really good.

Honestly, I think The Alamo and FotRE both benefit greatly from the impressive Tadlow recording/performance. If you get the original FotRE (a great looking LLL release) you'll see it doesn't impress nearly as much in its original recording. Somehow Nic Rains and the CoPP make Tiomkin's work sound less messy/clunky, silly as that may seem. Yavar

Rozsa's Diane is tempting though... I think Diane is very much worth purchasing, but then I have every FSM Rozsa release I think, so I would say that.

And me...I love and cherish every single Rozsa CD Lukas Kendall produced (at FSM or elsewhere). Yavar
