From their Facebook page 30 mins ago:

2018 will be filled with some new exciting CD releases. We will also launch a new box set collection of French unreleased and rare scores which should please the film music fans. See you next year and wishing you a happy and resting holiday season.

Also wanted to give Music Box Records a heartfelt thanks for the Expanded A Fish Called Wanda. An absolutely wonderful CD, score, and overall presentation.

Cannot wait to see what you've got in store for us in 2018.

My wish list:

- L'HERITIER [complete] (1972) by Michel Colombier, film starring Jean-Paul Belmondo

- LE BATTANT (1983) by Christian Dorisse, supervised by Michel Colombier (General Music), film starring Alain Delon

- COP (1985) by Michel Colombier, starring James Woods

- EFFRACTION (1982) by Maurice Vander, film starring Bruno Cremer

and, if master tapes still exist,

- EXTERIEUR, NUIT (1979) by Karl-Heinz Schäfer. There is a CD issued in 2003 by Disques Dreyfus, where most tracks only exist with heavy dialogue. Some music was taken from an LP. A remastered CD edition without dialogue would be a real treat with Juan-Jose Mosalini playing the Bandoneon!!!

Fantastic news! I have no idea what MBR is up to but I hope they signed a deal with Telfrance and other publishers and will release accordingly a whole lot of scores from French TV series from the 60 to the 80’s. There are so many masterpieces by Loussier, Delerue, Garvarentz and others that still need to be unearthed before the tapes get damaged! I keep my fingers crossed.

Given their fine work on MGM comedy scores (She-Devil, A Fish Called Wanda), I do hope they consider David Newman's UNDERCOVER BLUES, at some point.

Your French is almost correct, Leagolfer. I would say it this way:
une erreur: ne pas avoir acheté Le Magnifique.

After the excellent last batch of 2017, I have no doubt that MBR will keep up the good work next year. Can't wait to hear about the first titles...

Congratulations! Some titles mentioned in this post will be released in 2018 (not necessarily in this box set format). But it doesn’t seem to be a surprise because these titles are mostly French scores. We just hope that this new collection will please some of you (or rather most of you) because releasing other volumes of this new box set collection will depend on the sales success. That means that French film music fans will have to show more interest in this French ‘’heritage’’ but unfortunately most of them just don’t care about French scores. So a great dilemma to face!
Anyway, thank you for your great interest shown in this topic, it’s very much appreciated as always! We wish you a wonderful holiday season!

"Le everything for nous in 2018!" wink

Thanks MBR for the update and the clues. One logical title would no doubt be CONSEIL DE FAMILLE, especially after the demise of French superstar Johnny Halliday. Moreover, I've been told that the two LP's have different contents, which would provide enough stuff for a full CD.
As for the boxes, let's indeed hope they will sell enough. But as you said, even French collectors usually do prefer American film scores over French ones, so it seems wise to go for low quantities.
Best wishes for 2018.

Indeed both the future box set and some CDs are promising ! I immediately had the same guess about Conseil de famille by Delerue, a score asked for longtime by the fans, due t the odd 2 previous publications. Other Delerue of course could come to mind : some obscure TV movies or mini series for which we have nothing or nearly ...

Sarde and the others are of course welcome. The Heynemann/Sarde recent Music Box 2-CD is wonderful, a nice Chrstmas gift ! In listening in this holidays period. And maybe it is promising for other Sarde's, still missing : I think firstly about the Granier-Deferre films, not featured in the (now old) Universal compilation : La cage, L'homme aux yeux d'argent, Noyade interdite, L'ami de Vincent, etc ...

Yes, French film music was, is rich of great masters and awesome stuff ! Because, it had, it has a cinema art and industry, contrary to some other European countries. And yes, it is heritage, artistic memory we cannot leave.
Thanks for that.

I'm hoping for an expanded release of "Une Corde, un colt". The LP contained much more material than the Hossein compilation by Universal/Emarcy.

Bonnes fêtes Music Box Records!
