With Disney buying Fox, will they still allow Fox soundtrack material to be released in limited editions. Will they still Allow smaller labels to release Fox Blu Rays( Twilight time, Kino Lorber and others).
Or will Disney pull the plug on all of this?

I'd hope that there is an accepted grace period so that anything in the que of production (X-Men with LLL etc) would go through as intended.

First of all, this merger still needs to be approved by the US Justice Department.

Secondly, a new owner has to honor existing signed contracts made by a previous owner.

Third, and perhaps most importantly, there is no answer, because of all the moving parts in this $52 billion deal, which involves television networks, intellectual property, sports rights, streaming services, etc., certainly nobody has bothered to make decisions about their archival score soundtracks, which bring in a few thousand dollars a year. Bob Iger will not be calling this shot (though there certainly could be a general freeze on this sort of thing until everything shakes out).

Disney purchased Lucas Film, Marvel, Pixar, Muppets, (gawd knows what else) but haven't they kept each entity more or less "intact"? So I imagine Fox music would still be released on the Fox label.

And I don't think by default it becomes Intrada's soul territory.

I don't like the sound of this. All we can do is wait and see what develops. I would think Disney would have to honor Fox scores now under contract for future CDs. But after that? Fox still has a lot of Golden Age and Silver Age scores I'd love to see on CDs.

Do we know when this will take place? I mean, is there a date for when the takeover is in effect?
Or has it already started?

The only question in the world that matters is:

Will they finally re-install the Fox logo before the Lucasfilm logo in Episodes VII through IX?

As strange and silly as it sounds - i always miss this when watching the new movies.

Best,
Burnie

What I meant by that was that it won't take effect immediately. (No, I don't hold out hope that anti-trust laws mean anything anymore.)

Why would two studios who've worked with specialty labels for i]decades pull the plug once they become part of the same family?

I don't think they will become the SAME family, Disney will OWN Fox. So I would think it's up tp Disney if they (the new owner of Fox) want to continue with the limited editions of Fox scores.

They are projecting 12-18 months, depending on how long the regulatory evaluation takes. So don't expect any changes overnight.

Well, Disney has it's own set of labels and that could make tiny Fox Music redundant in a corporate scheme.

And yes, in any major merger that can affect an industry the justice department always looks at a deal to make sure it's not creating unfair competition. Having said that and with the shifting of the studios financing to what are called film funds and other investment companies, doubt this is viewed as anti-trust in any way shape or form.

I don't think they will become the SAME family, Disney will OWN Fox. So I would think it's up tp Disney if they (the new owner of Fox) want to continue with the limited editions of Fox scores.

What could happen is choice stuff could go to Disney's labels. Maybe Fox keeps it's identity and thus keeps the label as what they call an imprint among Disney's other label assets. Hard to say but I see Fox the studio label staying in business as they do a good job putting out serious type films Disney can't or won't make. In a way, it could be similar to when they owned Miramax so many years ago. The Fox label can keep making movies for Disney to build their market share in the serious type fare.

I also noticed Disney will acquire 39% of Hulu. They have long talked about building a Disney branded subscription platform. Owning that much of Hulu makes the job easier.

Theres lot of reasons FOX will stay intact as it's own entity. Number one is public image. The remaining mega companies don't want to remind the population they own these huge monopolies.

Did you know most eye glass companies are owned by one foreign entity? That's why prices are so astronomically high.

Furthermore the Justice Department isn't going to consider a damn thing. Big corp runs the country, the government does their bidding. It will be rubber stamped.
