And here, just today in fact, I dared to get hot my copy of DAMNATION ALLEY was lost by
USPS!
I hope this story reaches some happy conclusion, very sad.
Have to plug Intrada's incredibly gracious & fast service for my own issue - if only big business operated the same way. ..

Not defending UPS or the bank (you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany) but why on earth didn't they do an electronic bank transfer?

Nonsensical headline blames messenger when the article clearly places ultimate responsibility with TD Bank. And electronic transfer wouldnt help if there was a similar issue and the bank refused to help:

"She obtained the bank draft in February after she said the bank advised it as the safest way to send the large sum. TD guaranteed Taylor and her husband, John, that the money would be replaced if the draft was lost, she said."

Wow, that's actually better than the USPS. I had a relative who sent like $200 via a USPS money order. It never arrived. They wouldn't refund the money. They said they had to do an investigation. You had to pay money for the investigation. And then she never heard from the USPS ever again about it.

A couple of years ago I won 15 figurines in an Ebay auction. The seller sent via USPO with insurance. When the box arrived, half of the figurines were smashed into pieces. Both I and the seller made a claim. I brought the smashed box and damaged items to my local PO. A day later they declined to honor the insurance. On top of that they didn't offer to give me back my box of goods. I had to go back and request it.

Thanks for the heartwarming story, sol. "God Bless America" and all that rot.

Yeah, 'cause as we all know, bad costumer service from a government-regulated business is unique to America.

Our "exceptionalism" is at risk here.

(and Janie Bryant did a GREAT job with her "Mad Men" costuming, I'll have you know!)

what rules in the fine print justified their dishonoring the insurance? were the items not packed well enough, or they thought they were overvalued?

I don't recall. I think they said the figurines could be super glued back together and saved. LOL

Actually that was partially true. I was able to super glue a few back together. Some breaks were obvious while others looked like they never broke apart. I made a deal with the seller. What I could glue together and save I'd keep. He agreed to give me a partial refund for the pieces totally lost.

But they are no longer in mint condition and are prone to breaking at the weak links.
