"Papillion" last year was another. "Basic Instinct" is yet another one (not much to ad though).

Still available through other retailers, so not quite sold out. Yes, I know this because I just had to buy the darn thing after all, just like all the other Quartet Goldsmith expansions!

"Papillion" last year was another. "Basic Instinct" is yet another one (not much to ad though). Papillon was earlier this year, not last year. Basic Instinct and Total Recall were indeed slight expansions, with some unreleased film takes and an unreleased brief unused cue and such, plus other bonus cues. I found them to be noticeable improvements over the previous "complete" Prometheus and Varese editions, in terms of sound. I believe Neil S. Bulk worked on both for Quartet. The first (slight) Goldsmith expansion they ever did was actually King Solomon's Mines, another late December Goldsmith surprise a few Christmases ago. Their first ever Goldsmith release was the reissue of Studs Lonigan (not an expansion because the Varese was already the complete score). The Russia House is their sixth Goldsmith release overall. BS was a necessary improvement, as a number of people noted a weird buzzing(?) sound heard in the Prometheus release (presumably in the whole score). The Quartet fixed that. "Papillion" was more than a minor expansion, because it improved not only upon the sound but it corrected the speed problem the overseas expansion had, plus it added music not heard in the film.

I agree with all of that. BI & TR were worthy/important improved editions even though the previous editions were virtually "complete". Same goes for King Solomon's Mines, actually, though I'm less enthusiastic about that score than most of my fellow Goldsmith fans seem to be (actually true of BI & TR too, come to think of it). Papillon was amazing and probably my release of the year until Intrada announced Damnation Alley and the incredible Waxman Box. Yavar

And yet I bet you there's still some piss head on the forum who'd complain about a re-issue of a re-issue.

I have no doubt that within 12 months one of the labels will reissue The Russia House. 1000 wasn't anywhere near enough for a 90s Goldsmith! Especially expanded 90s Goldsmith. Well...it might be the right amount for Mr. Baseball: The Deluxe Edition or Angie: The Deluxe Edition, if Varese ever gets around to those. Yavar

Mr. Baseball" -- the limited edition which will be limited and not have a thread with a dozen pages about how screwed up the whole affair was.

I still have one sealed spare copy available for anyone interested... since the originally interested party obviously lost the interest. I'm interested… I had bad timing with this title.
