Phew. I've more or less finished my Grand Whittling Project. Still have some to go where I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them the way they are or whittle a bit (like Quincy Jones' THE COLOR PURPLE). It amounted to 116 albums, a bit less than expected, but still a LOT of work. I'll see if I can peridically share some screen grabs of the whittled playlists now and then, perhaps over a glass during the weekend.
Does anyone have a whittled down program of the original Die Hard?
The 3CD is pretty magnificent in scope, but I’d appreciate a condensed playlist from someone more acquainted with the score.
Yes, I do! Below is my 73 minute whittled down version of DIE HARD, created back in 2019 (if I recall) and using tracks from that very latest remastered edition from La La Land Records. I kept it in chronological order, unlike my single album edit of DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE. Anywho, hope this helps!
Die Hard (Remastered Edition, Custom Album Edit): 1.Main Title 2.Seeing Holly 3.Terrorist Entrance 4.John's Escape/You Want Money 5.The Nakatomi Plaza (Takagi's Death) 6.Wiring the Roof 7.Tony and John Fight 8.Going After John 9.Have a Few Laughs/Al Powell Approaches 10.Under the Table 11.Welcome to the Party 12.Holly Meets Hans 13.Assault on the Tower 14.Attention Police 15.Shoot the Glass 16.I Had an Accident (Extended Version) 17.The Vault (Film Edit) 18.Message For Holly (Film Edit) 19.The Battle / Freeing The Hostages 20.Helicopter Explosion And Showdown 21.Happy Trails, Hans 22.Aftermath - Powell's Comeback 23.Beethoven's 9th (End Credit Excerpt)
In addition, and as I mentioned in the main thread on Quartet Records' release of CLIFFHANGER, I crafted a whittled down, single album edit of that as well. This is a 71 minute version and I mostly supplemented all the tracks on the original 51 minute album with additional cues. I did decide to not include that "Frank's Demise" cue in place of "Jessie's Close Call" just keep the album moving, but it could be easily added back. I also included some of the album edits of cues as they were shorter runtimes.
While I like the original Star Wars and Return of the Jedi OST presentations I find Empire Strikes Back so out of film order it's distracting. So for kick and giggles I attempted to reorganize the original Star Wars trilogy in chronological order without editing the cues. (Other than "Ewok Celebration and Final", See Notes) Character suites were placed where I thought they would fit best in the playlists.
Some music remains out of film order because several cues consist of music from different times in the films. It’s as close as one can get without splicing up individual tracks and reordering them. My attempt was to get as close as possible to film order with the tracks I have to work with.
Notes: The whittling- "Cantina Band", "Jabba Palace Band" and "Ewok Celebration".

I have been playing the mammoth 4 hour Orville season 3 over the course of the week. The music is absolutely fantastic! The problem is, and it’s a great problem to have - is there so much of it!
I would really love to pull together a Best of The Orville from all three seasons that fills a one or two disc set, so I have the benefit of a time limited version.
Yes Brendon, I did a whittle of the 4 disc ORVILLE Series 3 release. I kept pretty much all of the Kaska and Cottee scores, which sounded the most original/least copy temp track of the set to me (although Kaska does skirt Williams VERY CLOSE on occasion too). Most of the stuff I jettisoned were Debney & McNeely when they were leaning too close to the source (ALIEN, RAIDERS, etc) or was a bit noodly suspense stuff, although there are some really good cues from them too. The only one that survived fully intact was Disc 4 (eps 9 & 10) cos I loved all of what Kaska & McNeely did in those. I can individualise the other tracks from Discs 2 & 3 if you want?
I've had two major "projects" recently - The Grand Collection Building Project (which some of you might have gleaned through my bumps and threads on various things recently) and The Grand Whittling Project. For the latter, I've whittled all of the "emergency soundtracks" in my digital collection, i.e. the ones that are unlistenable unless whittled, but I've also started to whittle those that are merely uncomfortable. This counts 174(!) albums so far. At some point, I'll share some of them here (I've taken screen grabs of all of them), but obviously not all at once.
Hans Zimmer's THE CREATOR 01. They're Not People 02. She's Not Real 03. Standby 04. A Place In The Sky 05. Missile Launch 06. Prayer 07. True Love
Total Time: ~22 Minutes
David Fleming's DAMSEL 01. Elodie's Maze 02. Kingdom Of Aurea 03. Horizon 04. Ever After 05. The Dress 06. Pointing The Way 07. Flower Cave 08. Three Eggs 09. Hunting Party 10. Flight And Fire 11. No Shelter 12. War Paint 13. Accept Your Fate 14. Royal Blood 15. End Of Your Story
No "Heaven"? It's one of the best tracks Hans Zimmer has written in almost 30 years.
Dont' know... "Heaven" just didn't do much for me. Propalby because it's so damn slow... But I still haven't watched the film. So maybe my opinion will change about this cue after seeing it with context.

Thanks Kev, appreciate you replying. Yes if you don’t mind sharing your whittle list that would be great.

I put this playlist together a while back assuming an LP had been released back in the day. Typically out of sequence.

Side 2 1 Christmas In Hollis (RUN-DMC) 2 Let It Snow (Source) 3 Going After John 4 The Vault (Alternate Performance) 5 The Battle / Freeing the Hostages 6 Happy Trails (Tracked Film Edit) 7 Beethoven's 9th (End Credit Excerpt)
I had the first 2 seasons of Ramin Djawadi's Game of Thrones on physical CD's, but later got the digital versions of seasons 3-8, which I found to be a little too sloggy to enjoy. So I condensed them onto 3 CDs. I tried to arrange them to reflect 3 aspects of the show. The first concentrates on medieval adventure, the second on dragons, and the third on the more overt supernatural aspects. I mostly ignored the show's narrative and arranged the cues like a single movie score, with a slow build leading to a bunch of action, then an ease down to a finale. I even gave them names. And now I have 3 CDs I listen to all the time. With apologizes to Ramin Djawadi.
