Ummmm... pretty much ALL of them!
A few years ago I started putting FOAM EARPLUGS in my ears before going Christmas shopping so I wouldn't have to listen to all that crap... makes shopping a MUCH NICER experience! smile

In the John Lennon vs. Paul McCartney arguments, I'm usually a Paul supporter but I have to say his "Wonderful Christmastime" is a very disappointing Christmas track, especially compared to John's "Happy Xmas."

That rap song that Argyle plays over the opening credits of Die Hard.

Michael McDonald's version of "Deck The Halls".

Taylor Swift's cover of Wham's "Last Christmas".

The barking dog "Jingle Bells".

The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Yes I agree, even as a Beatles fan I HATE Paul McCartney's Christmastime, DING DONG DING DONG!
I also dislike Wham's "Last Christmas", any version of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, any Christmas song sung by Mariah Carey and last but not least The Chipmunk Song.

This used to be played on the radio, but now it's not PC to do so. Almost as bad as playing religious carols.

Yeah, I agree with all of the above. I love Paul's music, but not in this case. One listen was more than enough... frown

I seem to be the only one who actually likes the Macca song. Oh well...

The two I dislike the most in any version, are 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' and 'Santa Baby'.

Thank you! Although I do find Eartha Kitt's version somewhat tolerable.

I can remember the first time I heard and saw it on tv. As a Beatles fan, I could not believe how boring and dull it was/is! The man who gave us so many great songs throughout his career and this was the best he could do? Obviously the idea is to be simple, but there's simple and then just well... pretty dumb! So, yes I'm afraid Lennon's is better by a country mile. At least it sounds like a proper John Lennon song. Macca's sounds like an amateur who couldn't be bothered. A true missed opportunity.

I think the reason "Christmastime" gets on my nerves so much is too much synth.

How about all of them?!
Only a handful I can stand. The Carpenter's Christmas album is one I can actually listen to. Real instruments, great vocals. I can hardly shop anywhere in December without getting bombarded with this stuff on their sound system.

Different tastes ... Frank Loesser's Baby, It's Cold Outside - an Oscar winner from the film Neptune's Daughter (1949) ... is excellent ... if you listen to Dean Martin's 1959 recording. Of course, it's not actually a Christmas song ...

And Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby (1953: Joan Javits & Philip Springer) is great fun.

IMHO, of course!

Whilst I normally keep all of my ripped CD music, even tracks I'm not fond of (on the basis that my tastes do change/develop), there have been a few Christmas songs which have been deleted ... and a few more my better-half would like me to delete smile

For true Brits there are only two that really matter: I wish it Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard, and Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade.

END OF!

For what it's worth, I'm not really fond of the Lennon track either. As a huge Beatles fan, it gives me no pleasure to say that, but it's true. It's just that the Lennon track is less annoying than the McCartney track...

By the way, dbrooks, you might be right about the synths being the key culprit... embarrassment
