I have the old Japanese CD release of Under Fire, but am thinking about getting the FSM release. I know that Japanese releases are noted for their sound quality, but is FSM's release a better-sounding version of this score, or should I just be happy with the Japanese release?

To be honest they are almost identical sonically. I am very proud of our packaging and think our release is the much better value for the design and liner notes—but if your main concern is sound quality, given the immaculate 1983 recording produced by Bruce Botnick, they pretty much sound alike. "Immaculate". That's the right word for every release this album has ever had. Even the 1983 vinyl pressing was way above contemporary standards for wide-release American pressings. A C&C plus original album mix may yet get a release, but it's really not necessary with the FSM release plus the Twilight Time music track.

Really not necessary? The Twilight Time ISO track is music and EFFECTS...major emphasis on effects. We're talkin' a lot worse than the effects-ridden Satan Bug half...the music is far more obscured by all the gunfire, etc. This is one of the most recent Goldsmith scores where the complete original tapes apparently do not survive. If they are ever found, a new complete release would be amazing to get. Yavar

Lukas How about the music in the film and not Jerry’s concert score.

How about the music in the film and not Jerry’s concert score. We were not able to find any music master tapes other than the soundtrack album. Lukas
