Any word on this getting a CD release or am I just not seeing it?

I haven't heard anything about a CD release, but I am not optimistic considering the 2nd season did not get a CD release. I will happily purchase the album should it get released on CD.

Bummer, forgot about that. :-(

Anyway Ive played the score multiple times now and I think its fantastic. Really solid from beginning to end.

Does anyone have a playlist placing the Season 2 score and bonus tracks into episode order?

There was a third season of this with another dynamite orchestral score from Lennertz. I’m shocked no one seems to be talking about it.

There was a bit of discussion in this thread in late 2021. Not a lot, most of the discussion was around the lack of physical releases for S2 & 3. But yeah, the music was, again, top notch stuff. In-between seasons I exchanged messages with the late showrunner/exec producer Zack Estrin, and he said he was proud of the scores. He mentioned that it was a MUST that the music be big, thematic stuff.

Maybe the music didn't get a lot of talk due to not having CDs issued for the last 2 seasons? For me its as good or better than the scores for The Orville.

Funny this just got bumped! I was playing LIS in the car this week. Overall I enjoy LIS more than Orville.

That's an interesting comparison (which I didn't think to directly make, despite adding tracks from both to a literal Space Jams playlist yesterday). And you might honestly be right. It's not a perfect contest, because Orville has a team of composers and a much higher volume of released music—and, I think, still has that albatross of being a sort of tribute show, which means it never entirely stops trying to sound like Horner and Goldsmith (and McNeely just can't ever shake the ghost of Williams that guides his pen). LIS, on the other hand and somewhat paradoxically, has fewer stylistic ties to its '60s forebear but also has access to an actual John Williams melody that Lennertz pulls out just often enough to be satisfying without overkill (and updates from its somewhat goofy original arrangement to a more contemporary and dignified feel).

So LIS winds up somewhere near Solo territory—a big, satisfying orchestral score with a clear voice of its own that also gets to ring the Williams bell whenever it's helpful. Great stuff.

I couldn't have said it better myself. In fact I wasn't sure how to say it but you stated it perfectly.

Except for the "somewhat goofy arrangement" of the LIS theme, since to my knowledge he only quoted the 3rd season theme...which was anything but goofy.
