At least we competed for the first few days. We were pretty much level after both first innings. Then our batting went kaput.

I fear a 5-0 scoreline is looming again.

Away from England, India just hammered Sri Lanka. Double century for Kohli and centuries from Vijay, Pujara and Sharma. Ashwin took eight wickets in the match. They really are formidable in Asia but they just can't do the business in Australia or England.

A revitalised West Indies warming up in NZ at the moment. I'm glad they performed better than expected in England - it's good to see them being competitive again!

Let's see how this thread performs. Thanks Bill wink

kev, nuffin ever happens, thats the point of it. You sit in a deck chair, knotted hanky on head, you fall asleep sipping beer and when you hear clapping 3 hours later it means you missed someone getting out.

Litefoot just reminded me why i cant fkn stand bastard cricket. wink

I don't follow that stuff. Just Tests really with a mild interest in 20/20 and ODIs.

I haven't seen a live match in years because I only have freeview. I do watch the highlight programmes on C5 though. Yes, OK, make your joke about them being very short shows!

No highlights of England Test tours so I have to settle for brief Ashes video reports this winter.

We did some corporate entertaining at Lancashire’s Old Trafford ground earlier in the year for a 50 over game. A few of us went on afterwards to Panacea, Manchester’s premier nightspot. 2pm saw us going into the cricket. 2am saw us leaving Panacea, ever so slightly less bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

The cricket kind of passed us by a bit. Lancashire, to our surprise, played in luminous green. The other team, whoever they were (Leicestershire?) were in red. Pyjamas instead of proper whites.

Still the best outdoor game to play.

Are you joking. Cricket is awful, like watching paint dry nothing much happens! Rugby, you get punch up's all the time, very lenient compared to soft-ball-soccer.

I think they're including me in the lukewarm reaction bit. I always found cricket to be a much better game to play than to watch. Football is "The beautiful game" but you need a level of fitness to play it that exceeds that needed for cricket. I could still lumber down the square for 22, 44 or 66 yards every so often, not to mention a race to stop a boundary, but on a football pitch, even five-a-side, I'd be blowing after a few minutes and throwing up after ten.

Cricket is lazy summer evenings and a 20-over office game followed by a drink or two.

Or it's a day at Headingley mixing and chatting with the other team's supporters quite happily, and switching between abusing the boundary fielders and asking them for photos.

The flip side is the corporate day out at Lords, when the match is rained off and you have to network ALL DAY, which is excruciatingly tedious. Happened to me a couple of times in the 90s. I also got to an ODI World Cup game at Southampton between the West Indies and New Zealand, getting slightly high from the clouds (literally) of smoke floating over from the Windies terraces!

I think it's definitely a problem that there is so little Cricket on terrestrial TV these days. A lot of kids who may have interest and get involved with the game simply don't see it on TV anymore.

Curiously, the one format of the game I don't like is 20/20. Too frantic with not enough tactics or skill on display. As I said before, I've been to see Ireland play ODI games several times in Belfast and Dublin, and hopefully next year will get to see our first test match. It has a dedicated, growing fanbase in Ireland which is good to see.

I enjoy the tests I see on TV as I have BT Sport, and watched a decent bit of the Gabba test. I keep a partial interest in the county championship each year, as I like to see how the Ireland players are getting on.

Hey Thomas, COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC, have you heard/bought that a-ha acoustic/unplugged set CD yet and if yes, what's it like and are you going to see them live next Summer, either in Blackpool or at one of their English shire gigs?
I'm contemplating the Blackpool gig, as it's only down the road. I've never seen them live but like many of their songs.

Hey Kev, we may hope Phelps (or Josh) doesn't see this or he'll be making fun of our favourite one-hit wonderswink

Yes I have the CD/DVD set of the unplugged concert. It's pretty decent, though I haven't returned to it as often as I would if it were a new album. Some songs work better than others, but it sounds very good and nicely executed. The performance is pretty good to watch on the DVD. Also features Alison Moyet and Ian McCulloch, and a couple of Norwegian acts.

It is indeed the Blackpool gig I'm going to, just picked that one as it's probably the easiest for me to get to. Should be good at the football ground, something new for a-ha in the UK anyway to be playing stadium gigs. They're pretty good live and always do a set with the songs most folk know, so I think you'd enjoy it. Should also be a good night with OMD and Tom Bailey as the support.

However I doubt they will play 'Waiting For Her', don't think I've ever heard that one live and I remember you like it!
