Little trivia, Don Bluth tracked music from CEOT3K when making Secret of NIMH.

Though I knew the word "segue" before the "Star Wars" LP came out, I guess I'd never seen it written and assumed it was spelled like the self-balancing scooter now is. So I kept reading some word I assumed was pronounced "seeg" in those "Star Wars" liner notes.

Soundtracks can increase your word power!

Yaaaaaay, Schiffy, I'm not the only idiot out there! Er, I mean... I was actually into my thirties before it was pointed out to me that segue was not pronounced "seeg." I, too, thought they were two different words. Just one of those "dead zones" in my word knowledge that never got corrected until it was embarrassing. But like several others here, "interpolate" was a verb I learned from my copy of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ... a cassette with a horrendous high-pitched hum in the background of the entire first side. Occasionally I still hear that phantom high pitch when listening to this score.

Well. I ADORE this release. But tonight I still went back to the original LP. At some point I'll stitch together the original program using these CDs.

The original LP may be the ULTIMATE SOUNDTRACK.

I learnt the true pronunciation while listening to an interview with Richard Kraft.

Looks like getting this is inevitable for me, I thought I had the 98 Arista but all I own is the Arista 8365...whatever that is. I imagine the LLL is head and shoulders more complete and better sounding.

Don't resist. It's great. And I was wondering why I would need it, having bought the previous two CDs. But each new release has made me appreciate this monumental score more.

It's a great one alright...probably my favorite by JW.

However, I'm guessing my experience with the 10 track Arista is only an adumbrated one. I can't imagine just how much more I'll appreciate it with the expanded LLL (plus, as always there will be that improved sound).

This has returned to stock @ La-La Land.

I finally ordered this 2-disc edition during the 'spooktacular' October sale.

The pressing I received has a sticker on the shrinkwrap stating that these CDs were made in Germany but packaged in the U.S.A.

Was this also true for the initial discs pressed 2 years ago?

I'm now wondering if the production delays that Germanic labels such as Alhambra and Kronos have been experiencing with their products are because German manufacturing plants got work loads from U.S. labels like La-La Land?

The Baton: A John Williams Musical Journey

Episode 47 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind
October 30, 2019

John Williams closed out 1977 on top of the pyramid in Hollywood. He was involved in two of the three highest-grossing films in the United States, and wrote scores for them that brought more attention to symphonic film scores. His final film of 1977, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, required him to participate in pre-production to find a five-note signal that would serve as communication between Earthlings and the aliens. His underscore is full of great themes, including a nod to the “Dies Irae” melody and sweet angelic voices to signify the alien mystery. Host Jeff Commings details the long journey Williams took to complete this project, which began in early 1976 and continued to summer 1980 for a three-minute piece for the controversial mothership interior scene in the Special Edition.
