I've sampled these rerecordings today and found them pretty thrilling. If they're anywhere near as well done as they did Fahrenheit 451 (yes, I realize the latter is a finer composition than the other two), I'm buying! smile

So, I would love opinions! I love Bernard's music, one of my favorites, but never really knew much about those pieces. I have and love Stromberg's Mysterious Island as well.

Both are outstanding in every way - brilliant music played to perfection. Enjoy.

Magnificent music, great sound and outstanding conducting! All the Tribute Film Classics recordings are superlative (love the Max Steiner among others) and the booklets are very rich of notes and analysis of each single track.
For the Neretva score, Herrmann borrowed and reorchestrated the famous "Death Hunt" from "On Dangerous Ground": a stunning piece, energetically conducted by Stromberg!

Hi Wagner, shameless plug, but I have both the Tribute recording, as well as the London Philharmonic Orchestra (Southern Cross label) recording, available for sale or trade. See my listing in the "trading post".

I have every single Tribute release, and they are all top notch, top quality, fantastic.

The Strombergs and Morgan and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra I rate alongside Tadlow. Their rerecording of Steiner's She is a tour de force listening experience.

What I am also interested in is the earlier recordings. For example, their rendition of King Kong. Were there problems with the mastering?

I think there were problems with The Adventures of Don Juan? I remember holidaying in Barcelona, Spain, and listening to their promo video of 'London Processional' and thinking this is going to be a magnificent rerecording. But the final product sounds a little lacklustre compared to that promo (I realise I am comparing non identical formats). I wondered whether others felt the same?

Their Mysterious Island is also a magnificent achievement as are their other releases.

I can definitely recommend both CDs. The Kentuckian also has Williamsburg: The Story of a Patriot, both of which feature that Herrmann Americana sound I like so much.

That sound is also featured on The CBS Years Volume 2: American Gothic, particularly with his Walt Whitman suite, but the sound on those discs turn some people off.

Agree 100% (or ~88% since I still need CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE). Fantastic releases.

My two tied favorites: THE KENTUCKIAN / WILLIAMSBURG & Korngold's THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER.

I know I'm chiming in late but both of these are awesome. In fact, every Tribute Film Classics release (there are only eight!) is a must-have, but the Herrmanns most of all because Bill Stromberg is the single greatest Herrmann conductor of all time. Kentuckian is great and Neretva very good -- I actually like the bonus suite from Naked and the Dead on the disc even more. As a Herrmann fan you will not regret your purchase.

I only hope Tribute will return to recording one day, perhaps with the otherwise-lost Herrmann score to Endless Night.

I couldn't agree more. The Tribute folk nailed Herrmann's sound. They're some of the best recordings of film music I've ever heard.

And Korngold and Steiner. Adventures of Don Juan is perfection - it's perpetually on my iPhone and I play it often. It'd be fantastic if they started recording again someday.
